    Hey All,

I'd be really interested to hear your views on whether using analytics is a good thing.

So far I have avoided giving Google all my site data but wondered if I am being over cautious.

    Your views please?

    Cheers Si.

I use it on all my white hat stuff, google likes to see you interacting with them.
I wouldn't let it near anything a shade of grey.
I keep my white hat sites hosted totally separated too.
And that goes for gmail addresses, log in ip's and everything.

People are really divided on this subject.

Personally I wouldnt add any BH sites to analytics unless it was a big money site that dropped out of SERPS and then I would only add and remove it.

WH makes perfect sense to add them but perhaps spread across a few accounts.

I use analytics on all of my sites lol don't have any BH sites right now but if I make one will keep it on different analytics account...

I don't take it as benefit or loss in terms of SERPs but way to check my visitors... There are other free tools also available which can do same...

Been into making websites and coding forever and I've NEVER used g-analytics for my less-than-legit sites... Never will... Some say G always knows anyways and you know what? That's simply BS, my friend! Since I can't know (and nobody really can a part from the G-sentinels lurking on this forum...) what happens on the servers located in Mounta1n Vi3w and HOW they process my data why would I ever want risking? What for?

I generally use Statpress if I work with wordpress. On my standalone sites/custom CMS I generally use my self made tracking solution that's way more accurate than any little piece of js g-analytics provides... And far more discrete.. :p It nicely divides spiders from view boosting bots and... real ppl. It can track lots of parameters to understand who's on the other side of the screen including -optionally- a slew of 3rd-party website visited, previous visits and tons more so that I get a CLEAR picture of the traffic I'm dealing with. After all if a site is BH I want to be so 100%...

Lately I know someone sued You P0rn because they used a similar tracking solution, but you might avoid sweating until you get the traffic of YP. On a site where I don't need to collect data in such a specific way (or for my clients..) I consider resorting to piwik that's an excellent tracking tool. HTH.
