I have a site that has analytics on it and I'm questioning the validity of the traffic read out im seeing. you see I have a single ad on the site and every day the number of impressions I get from the ad is around double that of analytics visitor number. Now the ad only shows one ad (not rotating) so how the hell can I be getting 2 different numbers. obviously I trust the impressions since they pay me. whats up with analytics? is there an actual acurate traffic stat program out there?

I consider The Big G's Analytics the most accurate. With all the shit they have on everyone, they probably know more about the individuals visiting any website, than anyone else.

Therefore if they say the traffic is half that of what you're being told from another source, it's because the other source is wrong, not Google in my opinion.

I have a blog where the blog stats show more than double within it's own stats than what analytics does. It's similar across most of my sites and unlike some people who love having inflated traffic stats, i'd rather under-estimate my traffic than over-estimate, if that's what it comes down to.

If I'm not mistaken, Analytics sometimes doesn't count traffic that clicks out almost instantly. Have you compared it with your server stats?

Oh wait, I forgot to mention something. If your visitors are navigating around your website, your ad impressions will go up every time they load a new page, but Analytics won't show that as a visitor (unless the x out the page and come back to your site later).

Plus, other programs show all of the robots as hits, which drives up a bunch of numbers on the reports.

I stick with analytics.

I'm also a G-Analytics advocate. I've found over the years that their data is spot on. If you're looking for something that is more real time, might want to try clicky, but beware it's a paid service.

Yup, are you sure you are not mixing impressions with unique visitors ?

My google analytics account always show lower traffic than my server. Maybe server side counts the robots and such. But I do beleive just by having analytics on the site helps with google rankings. My site ranks a lot higher in google than in yahoo.

Yeah, I'm also in the impression, that the more G services you use, the better your "standing" with Google. IE, you use Adwords, Adsense, Analytics, and I'm sure it helps to be crawled/positioned.

I think its when people are navigating around my site and coming back and reloading the ad. Also I made a mistake. the ad is a rotating ad I just never noticed it before as it usually shows one kind of ad. yeah all in all I would rather have a under-estimated amount instead of an over estimated amount to reduce margin of error.

I would agree...Googles analytics are one of the most accurate analytics softwares on the market as of yet.

Mystery Solved. Great avatar btw, I've got to go watch that movie again now, :D

Googles analytics definitly are the most accurate analytic software.

Definetely not, missing a lot of things and giving out your data to Google is a very stupid idea.
I tested many tools from free to very expensive, GA is ok but comparing to server logs, it DOES NOT show everything at all.
Plus giving my precious data to Google so they can use it for rankings purpose, never.

I'm fed up with Google Analytics, I have a blog that I have been running a campaign on and its tweeting its posts with bit.ly links, and there is on average 50-60 clicks a day for these links, and AWStats shows about 60-70UV's, but Google Analytics shows 6UV's, thats SIX, not sixTY.

Doesn't seem to accurate to me. I'm trying to setup Piwik but it doesnt seem to want to take my credentials for the sql settings.

Have u looked at histats.com? They are quite good

I think GA also doesn't count visitors that don't have javascript enabled. I rely more heavily on my cPanel stats.
