Google Analytics Vs Piwik?

Hi Guys,

Which one do you prefer to use analytics or piwik?

I've been taking a look more these days at Piwik and found some interesting articles that say there are a number of people moving away from google analytics in favour of this?

What are your thoughts or would you use both?

Piwik - complete control over web analysis, can be customized, extended according to need due to open source
Google analytics - Although it provides most of the helpful web analysis, we have to be dependent on what it provides. Some of your website info may be going public through Google services.
 
Never used Piwik before but Google Analytics is best i guess.
 
Don't use analytics if you do anything blackhat, that is my advice.
 
Yeah I'm totally agreed with Lalalaenhund, Google Analytics is the best one if you are going to use white hat.

PIWIK , I wrote an essay comparing these two for uni
 
No blackhat going on this way.

Piwik seems a nice feel to it and I like the fact that it is open source and self hosted.

Use Wordpress plugins like Jetpack or Slimstat. They give more info than analytics I feel.
 
Personally I use Clicky. It's not free, but it's very powerful and I like the fact that it's run by a third party and not Google. Hosting analytics data yourself is not a good idea IMO, unless you have lots of spare resources. A heavily trafficed site will generate a ton of analytics data real fast.
 
i have never used Piwik but I thing Google Analytics is the best
 
Piwik for small projects, Analytics for anything big.
The last thing I want to be dealing with on a big project is rolling my own servers just for collecting analytics.
 
Both are great, but if you are doing black hat stuff. I would go with Piwik.

I'm planning to do a test shortly between the two to see if it makes a difference.

I never used Piwik but Google Analytics is good for analytic your visitors, track conversions, goals and all other cool stuff. I think Piwik is for more just visited users.
 
Use Yandex Metrica, It will provide you with everything you need. Just like Google Analytics without hiding Search Phrases and Google Spying
 
One point that I would like to say is:

Google analytics is not for personal use but piwik is for personal use.
