Hey guys

Brand new to building a niche site, seo etc…

I started building my site in the beginning of January, I have about 30 pages of content. Today I looked at my cloudflare and its showing im getting traffic from various parts of the world. However google analytics is showing absolutely nothing. In fact cloudflare is showing I had 100 uniques in the last 24 hours and about 11 visitors an hour.

Shows “Web traffic requests” are coming from
Canada
Russia
America
Uk
Germany
Bulgaria
Slovakia
Australia
China
Afria
Japan
And others

At this current point Im not even sure my site would be indexed by google or at least i haven’t tried to share links on twitter or anything like that

My question what do you think is actually happening?

Cf is probably showing you bot traffic, and analytics isn’t, because the user/bot needs javascript enabled and tracking enabled to actually be recorded in analytics.

You can ignore what CF is showing in terms of user count. They count every single request, and there are more bots than people. GA is more accurate for user tracking.

Thank you for your reply!

What kind of bots would you think these would consist of?

It could be anything depending on how you have shared the site. It could even be hacking attempts. Could be other web tools as well like archive org, online status checking websites, autoapproved comments checkers and whatnot.

Oh wow ok thank you, very much appreciate the information. I was surprised to see anything as i haven’t shared my site anywhere

I thnk it is set default to not show bot traffic, at least mine is not showing bot traffic.
Not sure how cf defines bot traffic.. Probably repeated offenders throughout cf network? Unless they are showing their own page in between (eg they show you some captcha or something), it is hard to accurately filter bots. It is even tougher to do for everyone on cf. :p

Maybe, but it is their own filter so they should know how to filter it when they say so. I´m more into that Analytics is fckn up things for OP´s difference.

I hope thats the case . How does one know if they are not seeing bot traffic in cloudflare. Is there something to turn on or off?

Sorry if these are noob questions going to dive into it when I’m on desktop. Just got excited there was traffic coming in and had to ask

If you go into one of your domains there are filters at the top and you can add filters there too.

Analytics needs to render an actual webpage and only shows you users who have javascript enabled. These are mostly humans.

Cloudflare counts per request. Even a single http request to your site counts. And these requests can be made by random scripts just wheeling away listening to the internet.
You will always have a huge difference in numbers.

Cloudflare doesn't count non JS requests as bots. It considers you a bot once you start making repeated requests to the domain in certain patterns and only then sends a browser captcha challenge.

Basically, 90% of the OP's traffic are random scripts that cloudflare misses counting as bots.

In my knowledge, Google Analytics works better for the user tracking. It is very helpful tool. Whereas Cloudflare is just an tool for user count. It also includes the bot which is useless.
