Hey guys, I'm looking to track a lot of my linking to see how well the linking/marketing converts. But I also like to double up in my marketing and take advantage of the quality backlinks I get to boost my SEO.

I'm wondering, will using a long string tracking URL - instead of a direct link to my domain - make the backlink void for SEO purposes?

i.e. a link from FB: I would want to track which note or post I do to see which is converting as a FB lead, but also leverage of the high PR backlink from FB too.

Thanks for any help on this.

I don't think that adding a tracking string to your backlinks is a good idea. It might be seen as a canonical issue because its essentially the same as linking to the same page with multiple urls.

You could make some unique pages for your backlinks maybe.

On analytics you can already see the source of the traffic broken down; why you would need any more detail I don't know.

You can achieve this though by making a unique landing page that isn't linked to the main site (ie it links or redirects to the homepage but you can't get there from the homepage) that would allow you to see the incoming statistics of a unique link.

This will however skyrocket your bounce rate
