Google Analytics for new site

Hi Experts,

I have one query related to GA. I have my website in edtech. On that website, I have a subdomain. I have created google analytics property for my main domain but have not created a GA property for the subdomain. so my question is I have to create a separate property for the subdomain?

I don't think so. Analytics for main domain should also monitor the traffic for subdomain. Did you try it?

no, I haven't tried it, but I am asking the experts here that do I need to create a separate property in GA for the subdomain.

Google treats sub domains as a separate website.

When I create a subdomain in my website (like shop.mysite.com and forum.mysite.com) I created separate Google Analytics code for them to keep the data separate.

Not sure what others think about it but this is what I do.

In my opinion, it'is allll related to the Analytics code. If the same code is also available in the subdomain, then all the metrics will be recorded for that sub-domain also. Creating a separate analytic for that sub-domain is required if you want to specifically track the performance of the sub-domain only.
