Can anyone recommend a free analytics site or software for tracking visitor user data. Refuse to let google know any more then they need to know. thanks

piwiki you have to install, maybe not a good idea on a shared server (too much resource).

statspress, could get slow, since it is also local. I have not tried it.

Statscounter is remotely hosted, so I think the best approach.

Statcounter.

I find it good because I can track in real time (almost) on the incoming search terms and also referring URL's.

Most of my tier 2 sites use Statcounter and so far no complaints

I tried getclicky but it wasn't a good fit, Piwik is like your own private Analytics. Super satisfied with it!

I use reinvigorate and cloudflare analytics for my backup traffic trackers...

There is also Clicky (not the same as getclicky as far as i know).

If i remember there is a free version for upto 3000 pageviews a day. Then you pay per pageview. (yes i know pageviews...not uniques so that can make it expensive if you used tools to make hundreds or thousands of pageviews).,

I won't use G analytics shit anymore... getclicky is good. "Wordpress.com Stats" plugin is simple but it is good too.

Check with your host, if they have Simple Scripts in the Cpanel, you can install it with one click. Thats what I did with hostmonster. Piwik that is.

Piwik + Desktop Web Analytics can watch your visitors live. Or Wordpress I've been trying slimstat useful to tell what bots are visit your site.
