Google Alerts not working - or I'm too dumb

Hi guys,

I'm not sure if I haven't understood how Google Alerts works or if it is just not working. I've set up an alert for mysite.com, so I want to be notified whenever someone mentions my site on the web. However, people write about the site all over the web (I can find it via normal Google search), but I never get sent any notification. The setup is to send me a notification of all results once daily.

Can anyone please tell me what's going on there?

My Google alerts are working fine, keep in mind OP I'm pretty sure Google Alerts only alerts you to web content as it gets indexed by Google.
I'm certain it will NOT help you with keeping track of your site being mentioned on social networks etc. So this service is more to keep you notified of when new articles and blogs start popping up about your choice of content.
