    Hi,

We've been doing some interesting test results with this company i'm doing contract work for.

The company is looking to purchase a domain for their new product line but they weren't sure if they should buy an existing domain with the main keyword as the domain name or just get any domain that has the keyword.

For example lets say the industry/keyword is Bicycles.

The adwords test we ran was to see what effect will the domain have on the CTR, CPC, and Quality score.

We tested with several domains and industries to make the results were accurate. 3 domains for each industry were tested.
So bicycles . com, freebicycles . com , and bicycle .com . Bicycles being the main keyword with most exact local monthly traffic.

The results were pretty much the same for the 4 different industries tested.

    - We found out that although freebicycles . com would get a higher CTR, however, the CPC was also higher.

    - bicycles . com's CPC was about 40% lower than any other site.

    - The average position of the different ads was about the same, but bicycles .com got a lot more impressions (this didnt' make sense)

This test was a $5-6k adwords test.

We also looked at domain age, num inbound links, keyword densities, and few other stats.

So to conclude, keyword .com will outperform any other variation.

For how long time did you run the test and did you use the same text in the adds?

First set of tests ran for about 3-4 weeks.

And the second test for about 2 weeks. We ran it until we got enough clicks that it was statistically significant.

I know that with running it long enough and getting enough account history would change the results a bit..

It makes sense that it's better but 40%, holy sheet. Maybe G reduces the cost because it's like you are bidding on your company name ie. apple.com bidding on 'Apple'

Did you find that number of inbound links made a difference on Adwords CPC?
