Google Adwords Keyword Tool and google.com

Hi guys, until now I had only non-english websites. I want to try my seo skills on google.com.

Where should I look on Google Adwords Keyword Tool to find out how many searches a keyword has on google.com? (Locations: United States; Languages: English)

On the local searches or on the global searches?

Because, until now when I was searching for a keyword for my country I was looking on the local searches column, but now on google.com I don't how I should interpret those 2 columns...

With (Locations: United States; Languages: English) selected, use the local column

Sorry, I wanted to ask what's the purpose of global searches column, because you can't optimize a site for all countries.

Why not? You will optimize your website for English language without any specific country...

Ok, I understand that, but if I want to make a website only for USA, ranking only in USA, will that column(global searches) help me with anything?

Use the local searches and choose the location on Options.

If the global search count is really high, it means people from all over the world are looking for that. Even though you build a site for US visitors, you may get visitors from other countries. So it just brings you extra traffic and revenue.
