Google Adsense: seriously do people make money from it? Seems pointless IMO

i have google adsense on my pages but i make nothing from it.

i have affiliate sales that i get money from. google adsense has netted me nothing. does it really serve a purpose to waste ad space on that?


what methods do you guys use for your adsense?

Adsense is a huge money maker for lots of people, you are just lacking enough traffic to see it. Start getting a few hundred uniques to your site a day, optimize your placement and you should earn a few bucks a day from that.

I have joined a adsense revenue sharing website in India, and i am earning a decent amount from it.

I make about 400 bucks per month on one of my sites. it's just a blog i post re-written articles to. I stopped posting to it a few months back and it still makes the same money.

Also I didn't make shit untill I started putting the ads in the right spots.

i get 30-40k uv per day to my blog and it earns $150-200 per day from adsense and around 50-75 per day from cpa email submits. its worth mentioning that the site is optimised for the adsense clicks, im thinking if i switch them with the cpa ads for a day or 2 it might yield better results. i believe it does pay to have adsense you just need the traffic

Like many have quoted here traffic is the KPI if you have the traffic and the ads are in the optimum positions the Bank Doors will Open

its not bad but i think it could do better,its an autoblog too which is interesting, the stats themesleves actually arnt that impressive to look at the CTR is usually at or under 1% so im getting around 0.10 - 0.20 per click give or take a few cents here and there. And that is optimized as much as i can for adsense, obvioulsly i have lost out on a fairfew adsense clicks due to the cpa banners but its all about trial and error and im trying a few things out at the minute.
as for mentoring or help, feel free to shoot me some questions and ill do my best to answer, but to lay it down honestly, everything i know about IM i have learned here, i found the forum a couple of years ago whilst learning to ewhore and picked up from there.
Promotion wise its been a mixture of blog commenting, forum posting, tweeting, link wheels, bookmarking , bookmarking some more, squidoo leses angela and pauls backlink packs pretty much everything within my power.
i got lucky i would say, about 25% of my traffic comes from google news. the rest is all organic pretty much with a few refferals from twitter etc.
now and again the traffic comes in hard when an article is featured on redit or fark and it will peak around 70000 uv for the day. but again its luck of the draw.
all i will say without trying to sound too cheesy is i have worked fckin hard on this blog its cost a bit of money outsourcing various tasks, buying tools etc but its paid off in the end.
any way i have jabbered on enough now...go get of your ass and do some promotion or something

wow you ARE my hero. that is great. i been getting a few hundred visits a day right now. of course trying to up my SEO. my traffic has increased over the past month.

what are the best places for the ads then?

i use 3 link units and 3 ad units to make the most out of my addsense.
The first link unit i have is towards the top of the page and is a horizontal bar so it appears as you would expect page links to appear.
the other 2 link units are stacked in the side bar half way down the page.
i have 2 250x 250 ads above the content and 1 250 x250 at the top of the sidebar the reason i used all 250 x250 ads is purely because thats all that would fit in my side bar and in the content.
originally i had the sidebar adsense unit under my content though it didnt get as high a CTR.
the rest of my blog is filled up with cpa banner ads though not in a spammy way the blog looks smart.

very nice, i need to try these methods bc i been putting one small link at the top and one at the bottom, hoping someone would click it. so far no clicks lol

That is simply an amazing return on so few uv's. Congrats.

it really is about ad placement on your site.

i've read that putting an ad block right below the title of each post on your site works well.
also that sandwiching your ads with content can work well too.

you can also try using heatmaps on your site or any other tool that allows you to visually see where a user's mouse is moving to and where they are clicking.

maybe use them to see where people are going and clicking on your sites and position your ads accordingly? i dunno, just a thought. maybe other people can elaborate on their experience with this stuff.

Adsense works, and especially for the newbie. I don't know when you loose the title "newbie", but I'm not making thousands of dollars yet online. However, I am making $400 to $800 a month in Adsense. I was a total noob when I joined this forum, and the absolute best information I found here. As it has been said here a million or so times, there's no magic pill, no silver bullet, no instant millions. You have to pick a business model (adsense, cpa, ewhoring, etc.) and then sit down and work it from start to finish. The great thing about Adsense is that you can pick relatively small niche markets, get great first-page rankings on the big G for the keywords in your niche, and you can do it fairly quickly. As stated by Tygrus and others here, get the traffic: the clicks will follow.

I have only 1 ad on my site, its all the way at the bottom of the page and earns about $10/month

I have my site that is getting about 200 uv a day and im not earning anything.

Randomly dropping adsense all over a random blog about nothing will get you the 4 cent clicks. Seems pointless, right?

I'm sorta following the Xfactor model and I've built 25 or so niche product sites and I'm averaging $1 per site every day with adsense. ($1 clicks are not uncommon, even with boring products like inflatable mattresses.) I get that with ONE ad, front and center "above the fold".
