Google ads update?

I ran ads for an affiliate website without any issues (always used the older google ads layout), but roughly at the same time as google removed it's old layout and forced everyone to the new design, the ads started getting pretty much 0 impressions.

I created my own landing page, set up google tracking, conversion goals etc and everything works good.
As soon as I do an ad directly to affiliate website, it shows a few impressions at the first day and then nothing

I even jacked the price way up so I know it's not because low bids.

When I look under "overview", it shows this:

It used to show that before as well (conversion tracking: inactive) and it never was an issue as I use "Manual CPC" and want nothing to do with their smart bidding.


Could it be that google now doesn't show your ads unless you install a google tag on your website?
If that is the case, direct linking really did die.



For everyone saying I should use my own landing page and not direct link - the price per click is way lower + conversions are much higher with direct linking compared to creating a landing page between. It is a legit company and there's no issues direct linking in google, everything is according to their policies.

I have it worse because every time I try to create an account and want to run it, I will be charged a suspicious payment

That's what I was afraid of. Do you know if there is any workaround for that? Or only option is to create landing page and add the tag there.

If you want to warm up an accounts, just run youtube or display ads

No need to warm them up. Just need to be able to run search ads to a website that I can't install the Google tag in
 
If you use landing page can you install the Google tag conversation tag? Is it allowed when doing affiliate marketing? Would it be more risky this way? I do Affiliate marketing with landing pages. Should I add the conversation tag?

Yes you can.

Not sure why it shouldn't be allowed or why it could be risky.

The only point of the conversion tag is so that google ads and you can get information on what the people did after they clicked on your ad. Once you have that info, you can optimize your google ads campaign with their smart bidding, so that google will show your ads to those most likely to do the action you want.
You can set up the conversion tag in a lot of different ways, for example:
1) Landing page visit
2) Specific page visit (for example, thank you page after they put down their email in the initial landing page)
3) Outbound URL or button click (when your landing page has a button to the sales page)


If you're using a landing page, adding the google conversion tag is a must do in my opinion. It will help you optimize your campaigns.

Oh thank you so much for the answer and the help! I have one more question When you're doing direct linking generally are you accounts getting suspended after a while? Or as long as the affiliate link is not redirect it's allowed?

Google doesn't really have anything against direct linking or affiliates. It has something against specific niches and "scammy" websites and products.

Unfortunately the majority of affiliate products are looked as "scammy products" with unrealistic claims by google. They either have some weird code on the website, make unrealistic claims like "drink this powder and you will lose 42 pounds" or "the best product ever shown on shark tank".

Years ago, I saw that an ad would be accepted and google would show it for a few weeks and then suspend the account. Recently however I've seen more of either instant suspension or everything okay indefinitely.
So whether your account will be suspended with direct linking heavily depends on what product you are promoting. I'm pretty sure 100% of all clickbank, CPA networks, digistore etc products will get your account suspended immediately.
