  • Your ad shares a similar Display URL with a competing, higher ranking ad.

I am suffering from the above words.

Quality score - 10/10

Exp. CTR - Above average
Landing page exp - Above average
Ad relevance - Above average

Bidding - Maximize clicks(Unlimited)

My campaign is like this.

However, due to competition ads, ads are not posted. Which improvements should I make when my quality score is high and my bidding price is limited?

Help!

I am 6 years deep deep deep into Adwords (Google Ads), it's been almost 24/7 Adwords with me 6 years straight. I have not seen "Your ad shares a similar Display URL with a competing ....". It may be something new. But, I really doubt if there is actually an issue between SIMILAR urls ...

It is really old thing and mostly when u do brandjacking. Only option is when u play with different bidding methods. Sometimes even manual cpc works when u set cpc really high (it doesnt mean u actually pay that cpc).

Agreed, haven't seen this error so far but yes as mentioned above try different bidding methods and see if that helps.

As with others, I've never seen or heard of this message before and that's in 15 years of doing Google Ads. Of course, I don't often do something that will generate any message and the system is ever changing and evolving so it could be something new.

First thing that comes to mind given the message itself is, are you doing affiliate marketing and are you doing direct linking? If so, the message becomes clear(er): it is warning you that someone else is also direct linking to the same domain for the same keywords and only one of you can have their ad shown for any auction. What I find strange is the use of "similar" but that could just be the way Google talks, I've seen it before.

What's good is that your QS is 10. Therefore, to outrank the competitor, you need to place a higher bid. Ad rank is your QS times your bid so if we assume the competitor also has a QS of 10, should they be bidding $1, you need to bid more than that. You can get a better idea of what you should bid by checking the keyword tool estimate as well as the report showing the current top-of-page bid. Auction insights will shed light on who this competitor is but that'll show you the domain. You say ads are not posted at all so that won't help, you need some impressions.

I don't believe this will solve the issue but I would use manual bidding.

you are limited on cpc. just increase some price for it and hopefully your issue will be resolved

I get that message whenever I'm promoting big brand companies and using their URL directly, which I'm sure other affiliates are too.
Only solution? Make a landing page, and send people to the sales page from your landing page.
It's harder, might not convert as well, but if you are looking for a solution while promoting a website that many other affiliates are, that's your only way out.

As i said before it is mostly on doing brandjacking with branded keywords. Depends on his methods the cpc can be even 20-30x higher when he would use own domain with same keywords instead of branded domain. But sometimes even change of display url can help. I would still suggest to play with cpc and different bidding methods.
