Hey guys, I’ve been trying to learn Google Ads recently and I’ll be honest it looks straightforward until you actually start running campaigns. Setting things up is easy but knowing why something isn’t working is where it gets confusing sometimes I get clicks but no conversions other times barely any impressions at all.

Feels like there are a lot of small details that make a big difference, For those who’ve been through this stage, what helped you get past that nothing makes sense phase?

Been there. Google Ads looks simple until you actually have to troubleshoot.

What helped me get past that phase was focusing on a few basics instead of trying to fix everything at once:

  • Search terms report – this is where I realized most of my wasted spend was coming from. Adding negatives made a big difference.
  • Match types – broad match can burn budget fast if you’re not careful. Tightening this up improved both impressions and conversions for me.
  • Ad intent vs keyword intent – I had clicks with no conversions because my ad didn’t match what people actually wanted.
  • Landing page – sometimes it wasn’t the ads at all. Slow page or weak offer = no conversions.

Also learned not to panic too early. Some campaigns just need data before they stabilize.

Still learning, but once I started simplifying and looking at real search data instead of guessing, things began to make more sense.

Curious what others focused on early—especially when it comes to low impressions vs no conversions
This is really helpful, especially the point about ad intent vs keyword intent, I think that’s where I’ve been going wrong getting clicks but not really matching what the user expects

What you’re in right now is the phase where most people realize Google Ads isn’t as simple as it looks.
Clicks with no conversions = wrong intent or weak landing page.
Low impressions your bids, targeting, or quality score aren’t competitive.
What helped me was ditching the “set and hope” mindset study competitors, test more aggressive angles, control your keywords tightly, and track everything properly.
Google rewards people who understand signals and data, not just setup

if you are barely getting impressions, the issue is usually around targeting, search volume or budget. A lot of beginners build campaigns so narrowly that they don’t enter enough bid auctions.

slow down and focus on one thing at a time instead of trying to fix everything at once. Start by tightening your targeting and making sure your keywords and landing page actually match what people are searching for, because that’s usually where most issues come from.

Patience and structured testing, tweak one variable at a time and track everything meticulously.

thats normal tbh, everyone thinks google ads is easy until money starts burning
what helped me most was testing small budgets and changing only one thing at a time

half the game is just data + patience honestly.

This might happen to beginners who haven't systematically learned how to optimize ads.
However, studying it systematically takes a great deal of time, which would be a waste of time.
So I suggest that you look for video or article tutorials addressing the specific issues you are encountering, take notes, and follow along with the steps.
