Google actually going after content farms?

Google announces a change to its ranking algorithm designed take out content farms. New Change supposedly impacts 12% Of US Results. Started going "live" yesterday.

Evidently this is only in the U.S. for now. I'm sure they're "gearing up" to expand it.

i've noticed that too in the last couple of weeks or so
 
And my shitty autoblogs still indexed, nothing changed...don't be fooled by the hype, it's never ending game - webmasters trying to beat Google's algorithm and Google trying to stop them.
 
Well, 2 of my high quality money sites got hit by this. I got from #1-10 to #50-70 for all keywords. Above me are plenty of shitty sites. So i'd say Google fail.
 
I'm not sure they know what's going to happened when applying new algo, or changing it they just hit it and hope for the best.
 
A lot of my sites dropped too, not good news. Working on adding more good content on all my sites now.
 
Most of my sites stayed in the same spot. Oh, and the ones that didn't? They all went up in rank..

My opinion..

Google shoots out a bunch of press releases and media BS saying that there are "major changes in the algorithm taking place" then they just shake the algo up to scare us.

Don't listen to Google and their lying POS advocate Matt Cutts. They do this to scare us. Because they are afraid of us.

Just keep plugging away. $$ is on the horizon.

They never said anything about delisting crappy sites, just that they would be pushed down towards the bottom rendering them pretty much ineffective. At least that's what they're hoping for anyway.

But as you say, it's a never ending cat and mouse game.

I mean, a forum is a content farm in a way.

I wouldn't think it would affect forums any more than blogs. Forums like, for example, the 'free ad' forums will most likely take a big hit. Splogs will take a big hit obviously. Auto-blog commenting is becoming more useless as time goes on. The really good blogs and forums will probably be okay.

But who knows with Google. Never say never.

The big thing is going to be all the 'collateral' damage. EzineArticles, for example, is now going to go to a 60% (up from 40%) 'rejection rate' for submitted articles. Minimum words is going to be 400+. etc. People are screaming 'bloody murder' already over this. LOL

Just have to work harder to get better quality content on our sites IF we want the free SE traffic.

Are you serious? EzineArticles is a piece of shit! If you call that useful content then an autoblog with unreadable content is useful too. EZA is what I call an accepted SERP spammer. Or so it was.

Google was supposed to eliminate poor quality sites. Obviously it is impossible to do that without true AI or AI + NLP. If Google would be a better search engine because of the updates I'd be OK with it, even considering 2 high quality sites of mine got slammed. However it is not. This is marketing BS all over. I'm looking at SERPs in my market and while 1st page has only good (or at least acceptable) results, starting with page 2 there's a lot of crap and poor quality stuff.

It is much easier to spam the SERPs and be effective using blackhat or bluehat SEO than it is for google to stop it without hurting legit sites. My sites are the proof of that. Then again, it was Google who opened pandora's box, not the SEOs. Plus, SEO is a game with 1 winner, 5 happy loosers and many many sad loosers. Even if 10 people write great posts on a topic (keyword) only one will rank #1. Because of that, you have 9 people hating the 1 winner and doing their best to pull him down and push themselves up. What not many realize is that the wars between the SEOs help Google a lot.
 
This can be good in a way, im sure of it. if you have good content your rankings will skyrocket!!
