Hello,

we currently are dominating organic and google local for our main office. We are looking to move the office and have our view set on a nice office. The only problem is the office would be in what I would call kinda a suburb of the major city with it's own zip code and city name.

I have heard that some recent google local algos have more positively affected this, but that is second hand information. So the question is if we move the office about 15miles out of the city center into a suburb city with it's own zip code will that affect our ranking.

Other factors , we have a strong domain, several years old, good backlinks, lot's citations and a decent amout of reviews. We currently rank Nr. 1

It's going to kill your rankings! It's possible to recover but once the address changes everything is going to change and everything would need updated and as in the real world Location Location Location!

Thanks for the reply. The assumption here is that we of course will have all citations and everything updated quickly when making the switch. But my question remains how much of an impact is the physical location going to have after Possum.

Possum was mainly targeting virtual offices or locations with multiple business listings so if you are not in that realm you are okay. Hiding your address or selecting service based business typically they rank 2 showing address in pack results and one that doesn't. It's much harder to rank a hidden address if your competitors are not hiding theirs.

Possum wouldn't have much impact on it but having old info mixed with new is what will hurt you and where the new location is vs what Google considers the industry cluster or city center.

thanks again, last question :)

We would be moving far from the city center, but it would be one of the main industry clusters in our metro area. Any thoughts about that?

Industry Cluster is usually considered city center in Google's eyes when it comes to GMB.

Rankings will dance for sure as you will be reassessed at your new location. Ensure all of your directories etc are updated to your new NAP.
