Goodbye facebook pages :/

I will tell you why: this is because inappropriate people had access to the FBML code ('Click "Like" to see) and started to create dangerous/stupid/useless/threatening/ and even pornographic materials in pages for fans to see.

A page like "The photographer who took this picture has commit a suicider 3 days after". How somebody would create such a page to show to people? Another one created "SEE THE BIGGEST BALLS AND PENIS IN THE WORLD", "THE BIGGEST ASS", "THE BIGGEST BOOBS".

Some pages are extremely gore, which must not exist on Facebook. This is why we may loose soon the FBML function or the FBML code, and even soon we must wait for our new created page to be reviewed by an admin before publishing it.

Be intelligent next when you tell Whoever the Fbml code. Keep everything private people.....

PS: How could I forget... a reckless created: "Man shits in a glass and then he eats his shit". Yes, this is real ! (the page is in french).

This is the funniest crap I have ever seen. Fan pages are not the only way to monetize facebook.. just the easiest. everyone is following a template and then wonders why it doesn't work forever

Fact is.. even if they did away with fan pages COMPLETELY facebook would still be a goldmine.. think of all the other ways you can reach your friends other than fan pages.. fan pages are just a lazy man's best friend thats all..

Besides this is far from the end of fan pages.. why not just get the page verified.. is it that impossible if you;re making several hundred a day off of each one?

This is the end of lazy fucks making a quick buck by saturating a market with spam.. kudos to facebook for this lol..

Oh and uhhh... Whitehat... what the fuck is that? .. stupidity masked as legitimacy?:congrats:

Oh man, I just love your post :-) I've seen some creative stuff already, trying to get someone to build some tools now :P

So the challenge is getting 10k.. It's not a hard task at all but still it annoys me how I feel that I am being "fought".. They don't want a soul to earn a penny from them.. I am also starting to believe that applications are better than pages.

easy work around this, im moving away from fanpages and focusing on lets say, the "other" features of facebook, far better than having someone join, your page, its easier when they dont know stuff going on lol.

Just made a page and set the "FBML" as default landin page.
So yeah, Fan pages aint dead.

This is the responce from fb admins:
Hello all,

We apologize for not messaging this earlier. Facebook recently made a change requiring that Pages be authenticated before enabling the ability to set a landing tab beyond Wall or Info. To be eligible for authentication, a Page must have greater than 10k fans or the Page admin must work with their ads account manager. If you are already working with an account representative, please contact that representative to begin the authentication process. If you do not work with an account representative, you can use this contact form to inquire about working with an account representative.

Also, for advertisers who don't have a representative or 10k fans, and want to run ads and land users on a specific tab, you can still do so with standard Facebook ads by making their Destination URL as the URL incl. your tab. Unfortunately, this currently will not work with "Fan" ads.

Thanks,
Matt Trainer

"Facebook Appears To Back Down On Landing Tab Limitations:

May 20th, 2010 11:35 AM

Less than 24 hours after we first covered Facebook's decision to limit landing tabs within Facebook Pages to "authenticated" admins, the company has appeared to revert back to the original permissions, making landing tabs available for anybody. The change was rapidly criticized by more Page administrators who use landing tabs as an easy way to convert new visitors into fans.

While we've reached out to the company for clarification about whether or not this change back to the original settings is permanent, we still haven't heard back from the company regarding their policy on the new "authenticated Pages". We'll be sure to update if we hear more from Facebook, however there's no doubt that many Page administrators will be grateful that Facebook has stepped back from what would otherwise be a permanently damaging change.
Facebook's motivation behind the change wasn't exactly clear, however we speculated that it was to reduce spam and potentially increase revenue. For Facebook to make such a significant change without any formal notice, aside from an update to the developer forum, is pretty significant. At this point Facebook appears to have gone back to the original settings, enabling anybody to set a custom tab as the landing tab, however we'll have to wait to hear back from Facebook to confirm that this change is permanent."
