Thank you for sharing. I was about to start a travel blog but lowkey find this really enlightening. I do like what tidelow said and sell a product.

Looks like it's back to the drawing board for me.

Sounds logical. If you have built a very good email list of active users, then you can sell products or services to them. Relying solely upon Google is really not worth it.

Also as one of the user suggested above, in the past 7 years you should have created handful of other small niche sites that would have shared your revenue burden. I know it is difficult for a single blogger to do that but 7 years is still a long time and if blogging is your main source of income then you should definitely have done this.

But do not worry mate, it is never too late to start now too.

I don't know what are your financial challenges are, but do not give up hope yet. You have a very good extensive experience of 7 years and you can use that to start some new blogs and shift your focus on building and selling websites in marketplaces like flippa, sedo and BHW marketplace. Flipping websites is also a good business that you can think of.
 
Thanks to all of you. I have decided to continue blogging and am working on a new one, especially when I saw that most jobs here offer almost nothing compared to what I was earning on the blog. It is simply not reasonable to work an 8-hour shift just to get a salary half of what I was earning on my site even though the site's revenue was already 1/4th of its prime.

Yes this is more reliable. Like creating an image and then monetizing through platforms like patreon.
 
I'm sorry to read your story.

That massive drop in traffic is enough to depress anybody.

But as you probably already know, life is made up of ups and downs.

And just like any other online entrepreneur, it's really important to diversify your exposure to any one income source.

If you make money through online publishing, it's really important to have several blogs out there so that if one crashes for whatever reason, you still have other blogs to fall back on.

In addition to blogging, you should also consider other ways of making money online like print on demand, dropshipping, or arbitrage.

Still, I understand what you're going through and given the fact that you are expecting your first child, this news could not have come at a worse time.

I also have a kid myself and a family to take care of so I definitely feel your pain.

But the best I can tell is just hang in there, brother.

Online entrepreneurs must operate with this maxim in mind: what doesn't kill me just makes me stronger.

Hang in there!

I'm sure you will come up with a better solution.

Don't quit because as you probably already know, the global economy is not doing all that well so there's a recession.

So a lot of people are saying:

"Well if my blog goes down, I could always get a job."

Well, that door may be closing so focus on how you can diversify online.

Thanks for the support. I am on my way to the blogging journey again. Good thing is that at least my family is supportive and we have a good financial condition so much so that they can support me through the hard times. It's just that I always helped them financially in every area but I feel shy to demand anything from them.
 
Just create a few more websites, each one with a different niche, different theme, IP, different strategy, etc.
"don't keep all your eggs in one basket"
 
I feel your pain.
I had many ups and downs as well.
Once I lost 90% of my traffic on a site in a couple of days. Took me a few weeks to figure out what to do after reading everything. (Nothing helped really.)
If you want you can send me your url and I give you a couple of ideas.
A few, overlooked, small repairs can be enough to recover in many cases.
