I recommend making the one-time payment and purchasing Artisteer. Easy user interface let's you customize your own WP themes to your liking. This way, you can experiment and find something that works. After you do, it's rinse and repeat as far as the theme goes for each of your sites. I guess the rinsing pertains to changing the theme colors or something minor so that you can diversify your sites a bit.
