What are some good ways to make money from a website? What kind of website should I build?

and build from that point.

I'm sorry I know you are new here but there are literally hundreds of threads on this website answering your questions in detail. So do some work and go read and decide which path to follow.

And as far as what kind of website you should build, I'd say a good website would work out well
 
I always prefer to create websites through which I can sell my service. So first take decision that at which you are best, then create your website based on your interest and promote.
 
You first need to find a niche before making a website
with so much competition out there,go for low competition keywords/niche
you can then monetize it with clickbank,cpa offers or adsense
You will need proper on page seo and some link building

With that in mind, you might want to look in the section "Making Money", there are the first 1000+ threads on how to monetize a website, and what to build.

It depends upon how big is your site and the niche as well. Do some proper SEO and make it search engine friendly. You will make some good money with your site for sure.

Design a news site and share current affairs and hot news, gossips in your country :)
 
Build a website with a humongous "DONATE" button on it.

Get all your friends to visit the website.

Profit.
