Good, free alternative to Photoshop?

    gimp is the one and only replacement if you want a free solution.
    Actually it's really good, the only better one I know is PS itself.

    You should just find a cracked version of photoshop, I haven't tried gimp or any other program that beats PS

    OpenOffice Draw is a nice free option.

    I would suggest Gimp, Paint.net and Inkscape

    I have heard of GIMP but it does not support layer effect to my knowledge

    Jeez, I always thought Photoshop was shareware? But honestly, GIMP has improved so much over the years, the only reasons why I still use Photoshop is the familiarity and the plugins.

    They have a skin for GIMP that come pretty close to looking like photoshop so that it's easy to use if you're familiar with photoshop
