lol. It depends what kind of site you have and how much work you plan on putting into it. Software is a very very general niche but if you did have the skills and time to put in, that could be perfectly fine as an authority site. Most likely though if you're just starting, you might want to stay a bit more focused. Just ask yourself how you can make more money. And a lot of great guys will say that the domain name doesn't much at all at this point, so long as it's memorable...
First of all you will have to decide if you want a brandable domain or a domain name with rich keywords. In the very first case, use your imagination on what could be a catchy domain name that could easily be branded. In second case, take help with different keyword tools to get an idea of possible keyword rich domain name.
software is a very broad, very saturated, and very competitive niche. There's money there, hence why it's so saturated, but I would suggest you think about narrowing down to more targetted, less-competitive niches.
