Try Magestic SEO. Signup and it is free and an alternative to Yahoo. It reports for you too and is fast :)

There's always Link Assistant's SEO Spyglass. It uses multiple search engines to gather the links. So sad yahoo site explorer is gone it gave so many backlinks.

open site explorer .org is the best also you can try backlink watch .com and iweb tool .com.

But the reality is there is no tool that gives exact number of backlinks a site have. All shows approximate results.

Some tools only show indexed links. Not all links get indexed. You may also want to try ahrefs.com
