Good At Photoshop/CSS/HTML?

Hey guys I'm trying to get an image map to work that I've created on photoshop. It's 1000x800 which was recommended. I'm having a problem. It's not filling the browser width-ways which suggests maybe it needs to be wider. There's a white margin down the righthand side.

I know it's noob-ish but photoshop image mapping is new to me and it's kind of stressing me out!! Help would be much appreciated and I'll give rep for help.

I've tried looking for tutorials but nothing seems to help. I'm using Safari on a macbook pro which may or may not help.

The problem is that you will never know how wide the user's screen will be because there are so many combinations of screen sizes and resolutions.

To make something that is flexible enough you need to have a portion that can expand to accomodate different browser widths. The approach depends upon the colours or patterns at the side of your map.

The simplest would be if the right hand side was a solid colour all the way down:

In your HTML/CSS you could create a DIV to hold your image map and then apply the same background colour to your body tag that would match the side of your image.

If you have a repeating pattern, you could create a thin seperate image and then apply that to your body tag using the background-repeat in your CSS.
