Good alternative to popular messengers?

And what features do you want from the messenger? It’s just that I also know very little about it, but when I used protonmail. Everything, absolutely everything, suits me in this messenger, except, probably, the fact that it is in German. I still don’t understand what the jester is, because I spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to do what I need. Why don't you want to use your phone number, for example? Is your business really something not quite legal? =) Mb Then will Vamya have a direct road to the dark?
 
First, protonmail is not a messenger. Or I wonder where did you find it.
Second, using a mobile phone number is a real disaster for privacy. And it's not because of the legal or illegal things. I don't want to be tracked all the time.
So, any ideas?

In general, recently I found information about a very interesting application called Utopia P2P, and it seems that even a phone number is not needed. But unfortunately I know very little about him.
 
Hi, im use Telegram - it is best messenger for me.
Also, sometimes I use Jabber for my clients.

I have a friend, he use own messenger, which developed by his team. So they are confident in privacy.

Can you share the messenger your friend uses? Or they've just created it for personal purposes only? As I've also read about new Utopia p2p messenger, but still can't find any reviews on it from real users. But trustpilot shows everyone are pleased with it's privacy.
 
Hmm, I have already seen discussions of this application. But I had not heard anything about Utopia p2p. Has anyone tested it maybe?

I've read about it numerous times on different websites and forums. But I hadn't tried it yet. At first, because it doesn't have a mobile version. But now, as we're all under the quarantine, spending time home, maybe I'll try it out. If it has all-in-one and everything works great, it may be a good way out.
 
Clearly telegram. Nobody can get your phone number which you use for register, It's anonymous
 
Have you tested this app? I read a couple of articles and became interested. But I am a little afraid that this will be unsafe for my data.

And I have another information. The last mass leakage happened during Hong Kong protests, when hundreds of user's numbers were given to local govs. Telegram only says it's so encrypted and safe. Giving your phone number, you automatically agree that it can be accessed.
 
Well I don't make illusions about privacy anymore. But if it's matter to you try https://signal.org/
Edward Snowdan even told he use it. I love Telegram, but there cryptoprivacy stories are more marketing value.
 
My suggestion is Softros LAN Messenger.It not require your phone number...
 
Telegram seems like a good alternative and never crashes or is down. Interface is also clear.
 
I usually use Telegram for my super-secret chats. I heard Signal is good too. If you wish to run a server for the purpose of having secure and encrypted chats, you can also setup a RocketChat or an XMPP server and invite people to connect to it.

I'm actually going to give Utopia P2P a try after seeing this thread. It may not be open-source but it seems to be a viable alternative to centralised messenger software.
