Anyone watch Gold Rush Alaska... i think this show is da bomb... got my whole family hooked on it and tonight is the last episode :( These guys remind me of IMers.

Ive been watching it - I like the show

but they make so many stupid mistakes that it's sometimes hard to imagine they took such a risk

......... for me the damn mosquitos wud be a huge turn off

Didn't they spend like $250,000? Looks like they should have invested in something else.

Ya, they put down $250K to run for the summer and it was such a hokie design for their wash plant, it was like they didn't put much thought into it or test it out.

I wonder how much they got paid for the the show, that had to help some. I did read somwhere that they are in talks to a second season...

LoLoLoL, I have watched only a handful of episodes. The guy with the white beard (old guy obviously) is hilarious. Every time I hear him talk I can't help but laugh. :D

Good shit! :)

im watching it right now.. last episode
i doubt they will find enough to make much profit... but we'll see

The old man is awesome, his voice is hilarious and he just shoots from the hip and creates havoc!

i watched all the episode. I laugh each time i watch. They make such a stupid mistakes all the time. I guess they are going to have season two now.

Why do you say that it's a fake show ???

Now that the claim owner notice they found gold, why would he renew their lease for next summer? Think they are screwed on getting any more gold.

The claim owner knows how much work is involved and how much operating cash is needed, so he is probably happy to let them pull it out of the ground at keep 20%... kind of like affiliate marketing.

^^^ Exactly, from what I remember I think the claim owner is still working his own mine also.

I've been watching also. It's a good show but if those guys were smart they would take those first buckets of material with little gold, bag that shit up and sell it on ebay! People would go crazy for that, especially as many people that watch it.

Gold Rush Alaska is a Reality TV show. Reality TV is a mixture of "reality" and acting in order to get viewers into the network.

And no many of these "reality tv stars" aren't paid a whole lot of money by the network.

Most of them make their money by pushing books or products, getting endorsements, etc.

Finally, here is one blog (not sure how real it is...could be a fake blogger) that might help you:

A lot of what you see on screen is re enactments or "pickups" that help explain what really happened

And yes, I do watch too much "realty" tv shows :P

A few of the characters in the show approached networks talking about this show and pitching ideas. Like the guy above me said, networks simply aren't paying a lot to the people on these shows. Everyone makes their money from books, appearances, promotions, etc. A few are real, most are not. This if kind of like why Mythbusters has that one chick, and why American Pickers has... that one chick (I actually met her, she lives in the same town as me in the U.S.) who was brought into the show during it's conception even through wikipedia states that she knew them before the show.

These shows exist through the planting of things like gold or old rusty bikes to the development of a storyline that seem real in order to keep the audience tuned in. Because it was real at one time, people will continue to think it is all reality as well.

I think the show is entertaining to watch, but that's about it. You have to go in knowing that its not 100% real, but that's not why most watch...now for the $250K that was invested, I know if I had that to invest I could turn in into millions...
