GoDaddy WhoIs gave me incorrect information

I checked the GoDaddy WhoIs to see if a domain was available, & was told it was taken & not available. I checked 2 other registrars & it was available, so I followed thru & bought it.
I've never heard of this happening & wondered if anyone else ever got incorrect information from a WhoIs?

Happened to me a fortnight ago. I had to register another domain . Another strange thing I noticed was that the WHOIS info wasnt current.

Maybe the domain was previously owned by someone else. Why do I think so? Because WHOIS records take some time before getting updated.

GoDaddy whois is a bastard. Seems to be either giving false data or making you use their web-based and captcha-protected whois service in order to get any information.
