No, the code will work with a domain only purchase. It worked for me and many other members so far. As I said before, I don't have any idea how long it will last.
goodrat: I can confidently say I didn't see it at DP. Don't get me wrong, I visit the site, but don't stick around long. I only have a short tolerance to read post after post of "I'll take a review copy".
How much did you spend for it? You may want to take advantage of the 'buyers remorse' clause, then re-register it later.
Anyway, all I did was report it here when I became aware of it.

Whenever you register a domain name, it would be a good idea to do a search on G0ogle for "register name' coupon code".
I just went to nam*cheap to see what they are charging. There is a coupon code to get domains for $8.81 right now, and it shows me that Whoisguard is free. I have had an account there for a while, but I do not think that matters.
Also, they are offering a free SSL certificate with every domain purchase. I believe that is an excellent deal as it is not a shared certificate, it is your own. I am using one of them right now for one of my sites.
I used to use godaddy and still have domains there, but I have read that they will shut your site down in a heartbeat for any sort of complaint, true or false.

i just made a second account and got another domain!!
im gonna do this a few more times.
btw everyone i would use different paypal emails for each order just to be safe. and change your ip if you want to make multiple accounts
