I currently have a domain (and many others) registered with Godaddy.com and I want to protect myself as much as possible.

Here is the rundown:
I was starting a warez website and will either be hosting the files directing (from a file repository) or linking to the files somewhere else.

I know I'll need to host the site offshore to slightly minimize my risk for a C&D letter but what about domain whois privacy?

They offer Private Registration which does the following.
Protect yourself from spam, scams and prying eyes.
- Shield your identity and keep your personal information hidden from public view.
- Private Registration is included in Protected Registration, along with many other helpful features.

All for $8.99

Any good or any other ideas?

Dont use godaddy. They suck golfballs through garden hoses for fun on the weekends.

Namecheap are much better.

Or try internet.bs.

Or if you wanna be really cool, dotify.net who come recommended by a contact who knows people in the warez scene, and suggests that this provider is more or less BP.

I suggest Name.com They have Free WHOIS protection plus great service.

Godaddy will not only suspend services depending on them when there are allegation of spam, scam, infringment or fraud. They will also bill you 30 usd for "admin fees" just because someone sent a C&D letter of any kind to your privacy domains. I've extensive reports from alot of US based contacts confirming this.

so skip Godaddy altogether when the purpose is objectionable.

godaddy's privacy is a joke, its basically just a marketing ploy to get more money. like most of their site, it's an upsell
