Godaddy Nameserver change takes months?

Today I bought a new .com domain at Godaddy using their $1.99 offer. I was able to buy the domain, but Godaddy makes it very difficult to use any other hosting for the domain.

First it tried to upsell their hosting and other packages. When I went to domain setup and attempted to change the nameservers, I received the message 'Your request has been submitted. It may take a few months for the nameserver change to take effect .... A few months WTF?? Godaddy really sucks.

Is this the first domain you have bought? It doesnt take months it takes hours and i think you misread the message i think it said a few moments not months ..... The max time is 48hrs.

Yep. I had the same issue 2 days ago. Changed godaddy nameservers to hostgator and nothing happened. Then I contacted my VA and he said I had the wrong hostgator account / set up everything wrong.

Never happened to me. It gets changed in few hrs.. Might be complete propagation take 1-5 days..

OP you're member since 2008??? It takes months for godaddy to change nameservers??? You really made my day... LOOOL

Godaddy is really fast. It is usually working for me within the hour. A lot of times it takes 5 min or so before I can start work, but for it to fully propagate around an hour.

Make sure you have the correct nameservers.

Never happened to me lol, you must ne pretty unlucky. The only reason it takes some time is due to the propagation delay, but it is very less nowadays for every domain registrar.

Back in 2000, it took up to 72 hours. These days it takes a few mins to a few hours. I did have one case where it took overnight, but that was one out of maybe 20-30 domains in the last year.

It usually says It may take a few minutes for the nameserver change to take effect. Either they have a typo in site now or you have mistaken. With any domain registrar it shouldn't take more than 48 hours max. In recent times I never had to wait more than hour or so max.

OP you better of do it manually by yourself in no time, it worked for me not to long go!
Go to your Domain - Manage - and you just take it from there!
never sent email to them, click around in your cp to know whats going on man.
