Godaddy Literally STOLE Money from me - NEVER USE THEM

Hey guys, so I just had something extremely bizarre happen to me and I had to come here to share it. So basically, a couple of weeks ago I wanted to renew a domain on Godaddy with Paypal and I received an error message, so I placed the order again. Then I check the email and I see that somehow, both transactions went through and I was charged for 2 years renewal at $40. No problem right? WRONG.

I call Godaddy support. They tell me that on domain renewals, they can't refund 1/2 years so there's nothing I can do. I don't like this answer so I go and file a dispute with Godaddy ONLY for the second year via PayPal. PayPal decides to carry the dispute in my favor and I win back $20. I check my account later, and then I see Godaddy took the domain away, even though they still have my first $20 from the first payment. I file another dispute since now I'm -$20 and I don't even have the domain. Paypal decided to not give me a refund and Godaddy wins?!! WTF

So Godaddy essentially just stole 20 bucks from me. It's not about the money, but rather the principle. If you can, avoid using this company at all costs. I told the Godaddy rep on the phone that the $20 isn't worth losing me as a customer, and me placing shitty reviews online, I guess they don't agree.

and paypal should be ashamed what they do with their customers

those are big companies there is almost 0 chance to do something...

Can you believe that? I literally paid for something online, where everything can be tracked, and the product was removed from my account when I still paid them. And I don't get my money back - are you freaking kidding me? What kind of world do we live in if this is legal?

Again, it's not about the stupid $20, but imagine if this was an order worth $20,000. Absolutely disgraceful.
 
How did they take your domain, I mean you are still the legal owner right?

Nope. Domain is gone from my account, it's owned by Godaddy now (along with my money).

I feel you on this.

The principle of this seems off, especially by a HUGE company like GoDaddy.

i've always used Namecheap and Porkbun - never had an issue.

Porkbun also has incredible support I feel one of the best in the industry if you are looking for a new registrar :)
 
There are so many terrible stories about Godaddy, Why did you choose them in first place.
Try namecheap
 
Once there i searched for exact match domains, i found one really good, next day when i wanted to buy it, domain sold.

Such incidences had been reported multiple times here.

I've been using Godaddy for 9 years now.

They were exceptional and had excellent customer service.

I remembered the issues and shits I had and how they went the extra mile to serve.

This was before 2014.

Then things changed.

It was almost IMPOSSIBLE to get a proper communication with their customer support.

When I managed to get customer support, problems were not resolved as fast and they made me feel like I was a chore.

Their interactions felt strangely foreign after 2014.

It was like they stopped giving a fck about business and stopped charming their customers.

Almost no promos during the Superbowl (I looked forward to their ads!) and less pizzazz.

I sincerely hope Bob revives their charm again.
 
Definitely never search for a domain name on GoDaddy - go right behind you and register them.

I thought so too. It's like they have an algo to measure popular names, then they register and try to sell it.

I work at a webhosting & domain company. They are right. When you place an order it gets immediately pushed through to the registar (like for example ICANN), then the domain gets reserved for the period it has been paid for. Those costs are non-refundable for the hosting company. Meaning they have to charge you, or they have to pay from their own pocket which ofcourse no company will ever do. So it's not the registrar's fault, its the registar itself.

EDIT: The fact that their payment system failed (or paypal did) is a shame, but regarding the explained before I stand 100% behind it as I know first hand how this goes.
 
When I first started marketing I Used Godaddy for everything, Domains, Hosting etc..Now the more I learn the more I realize they are a complete rip off, I use Namecheap for my domains (free privacy) and 9.99 domains , I use mojo for host, I still got Godaddy but I am slowly moving everything away that I accumulated over the years. The worst part I think about them is that every time you call support they try to sell you something and tell you that they will sell you the solution to the problem, I remember one time I lost my my whole database because there hosting security sucks, I asked them if they could restore it for me, said sure $150 bucks...so I pay hosting every month but they hold my website hostage..Ok I'm getting off my pedestal..I feel ya on this and I'm sorry that happened to you, just think your post here will probably screw them out of a few potential customers, it will cost them a lot more than it cost you.

YES! This happened to me as well. I needed to restore a backup and they gave me a lot of excuses, citing they needed their "Tech" team to reinstate my account (WP). This was what pissed me off, and indeed they tried to sell me the $150 bucks service by the "Tech" team.

Any other recommended hosting though? Bluehost?

Sorry for the rant. Nowhere else to release this, since I can't complain to Godaddy.
 
I have never had any issues with GoDaddy and I spent alot with them for EV SSL's.
