GoDaddy hosting?

Okay, I know I'm going to sound like a terrible noob, but I just recently went with the .99 domain registration for a year at GoDaddy.com. I am guessing that if (persay) I want to edit any of my pages without having any GoDaddy advertisements and doing it with their site programs, I will have to buy a hosting program? I guess I felt like after buying a domain, that was what you needed, but I guess it makes sense to have to pay for them hosting your videos, music, etc...Will somebody please tell me if I'm on the right track?

Also, if I am on the right road...Which would be the best route to take (which plan)? My site is going to be hosting videos and pictures for the majority (maybe through a wordpress blog format...i don't know if that's the best or not)..

You have to buy hosting to be able to "show" your website. Godaddy sucks @ hosting... don't buy it from them. Also, if you are planning on hosting copyright material, don't use a host from the united states.
 
SpeedDemon is being kind... one day, Godaddy hopes to suck at hosting.

If you are not hosting copywrite material, head over to hostgator.
 
So, if I wanted a host, I can get it from a different site even though my domain is through GoDaddy? If so, what are some you suggest..(low budget, please..just starting out lol ;) )

and...I planned on just embedding videos from other hosted sites (my fault, I guess I said it wrong). I'm just going to copy and embed them from a site already hosting it...Would that be okay?
 
Just to give you an example... i think it was last month someone hacked godaddy hosting servers and uploaded trojans to a lot of godaddy hosting accounts. I had to fix my uncles website manually.
 
I'm not an affiliate or anything... but I have used www . a small orange . com with no problems

I pay only 5 dollars a month
 
I read GoDaddy sucks in hosting. But i tried it by myself, and actually i don't have any problems with it. So i haven't tried to contact the (bad) helpdesk. The speed is quite good (surely when you disable the webstats), however the windows hosting is very cheap.
For non-windows hostings, there are probably better (and maybe) cheapier options.
 
Is it okay to embed files from another site directly to my site..or do you think the best idea would be to upload my own videos?

I guess the problem with embedding videos is once they delete them from their site, then I lose it on my site...
 
Well, when your website receives a trojan come back and talk to me about godaddy :buttkick:
 
I would say go with embedding... cheaper. I'm sure you can find a reliable source.

i am pretty sure i am going to take the majority advice and not go with the godaddy hosting...so basically, what will happen is i will get hosting from a different site but my domain is through godaddy (which, i hope doesn't invite trojans just by getting a domain)...then will I edit the site from the hosted site or will it still be through godaddy
 
All you would have to do is change the DNS settings in godaddy to point to your host.

It's pretty easy to do from the domain section on godaddy once your host gives you the correct DNS settings.
 
Im a noob, but Im using 1and1.com and Im happy with it so far.
I paid like some 17 $ for 6 months (domain + hosting), cheapest I could find.
But I had to call them and set up my wordpress blog, cus it was bit confusing for me to set it up. May be it was just me.

It's not you... 1and1 is a little different than most of the other guys.

I use them for some of my sites.
 
Go over to Hostgator and sign up for a baby package. They are probably the best in the biz for your needs.

Domain registrars and hosts are totally different. All you need to do is change your nameservers to reflect those in your Hostgator account and upload your desired files there. Takes a while to get used to but is really quite simple.
