Godaddy com renewal pricing is extortionate

Ive been with namecheap since forever and couldnt be happier

godaddy really rips you off on renewals - thats how they can run those huge ads :D

Just look at my account at godaddy..
later i will move them all..

I got a renewal receipt through this morning from GoDaddy. A single .com domain renewal (1 year), with privacy protection. Guess how much it was?

£45.70 / $58.48

For a single domain. :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

That's strange.

I pay $8.29 for a .com renewal and $10.99 for a .net. Godaddy gives me privacy protection for free, but you don't need it in anywhere inside the EU now. It's automatic because of EU privacy laws. Godaddy for me are cheaper than everyone else. Even namesilo.

You have to join the godaddy domain club though, which is about $120/year, however, you should not be getting charged $60 for domain privacy + .com renewal. Something is wrong there. I would contact support to query it.

Hmm. Thanks for pointing that out. very interesting. I spent 45 minutes on livechat with them this morning and they did not mention that. First they said I had domain privacy and domain protection in their premium privacy package or something, then they changed their mind and said the privacy fee is dictated by icann and varies with each domain (?), then they went to speak to a manager who also told them/me they could not do anything about the cost.

If they had told me about a domain club and lower renewal fees I would have stayed with them of course. Anyway, too late now; all domains in the process of transferring away.

I personally hate the company since the first time. Too many upsell (with price above standard), and hidden charge.
Their ads usually appear in my art, pet shop acc - means they target those who have low understanding in domain stuff IMO

Total average cost for these with Godaddy - £1692.94
Total cost elsewhere - £435.54

So I have saved quite a lot today as it turns out :p:D:cool:

Oh yea, the ones highlighted in green I am keeping with godaddy just so they dont feel too sad.
That spreadsheet is the best thing I've seen on bhw

Has anyone here heard porkbun?

$4 .COM domain , great support, no upsells & hidden charge. I am not their salesguy, just they really do what they promised at!

Hm, yeah that's nonsense. It doesn't vary with each domain. It's a fixed cost. They've likely billed you for "ultimate protection". They seem to have 3 levels of privacy protection. They are very shady like that.

last year i bought domain from namecheap in just $1.5 through blackfriday coupon and today i renew it just $10.56 through 20% renewal Coupon that's why i love namecheap :p

So if my domain name expires with Godaddy, I can't transfer that domain somewhere else? I have to pay them for the renewal, and then I'm able to move the domain out?

Of course, yes. If the domain isn't paid up by the expiry date it is no longer your domain, so you can't transfer it anywhere.

You would have to wait until it becomes available to the public to register after going through godaddy's auctions and hope no one takes it.

Get on Porkbun, mate! their renewals are cheapest (as a dedicated registrar).

Or move your domain(s) to cloudflare (if you trust them) for no-commission renewals (you pay only what they pay to registry).

Name cheap is not the cheapest but I have never been ripped off. Also I heard Godaddy is a social media tyrant meaning they look at what you do and ban your domain/account i have heard this a few times, where name cheap doesn't care. So I stick with name cheap. Good luck.

I like Godaddy, for many years working with them only.
I wonder why the price is so high, could it be for many years, and not 1?
My price is $15 and I get 30% discounts on renewing products.

I usually transfer my domain to Namecheap (transfer + renewal = $8.9). Namecheap privacy protection is free.

Too generous. The one you'll keep they will make sure you miss renewal, send it to auction and make up their loss lol...

Any reason you kept any at GoDaddy? I just use namesilo for all, great with no vs upselling and regular renewals.

Kept that one because its the domain that I have used to register one of my servers and I have name servers set up on that domain as well.
Even though there shouldnt be any downtime I just dont want to risk it, so keeping it with Godaddy.

I used to resell domains and my time was up to renew, needless to say, I didn't renew any of the ones that didn't sell. Godaddy is aids

Godaddy business grew fast by setting up sale traps everywhere, and being abusive whenever they can.

Not for me, not even interested in their pricing.
