So I go to transfer about 40 domains out of GoDaddy because NameCheap has a nice discount on domain transfers right now (plus it was on my to-do list) and just about all of the transfers get denied because I updated my WhoIs information right before the transfer.

Apparently if you update the whois information over all four contacts, Registrant, Administrator, Technical, Billing then you get this email:

Express written objection to the transfer from the Transfer Contact. (e.g. - email, fax, paper document or other processes by which the Transfer Contact has expressly and voluntarily objected through opt-in means).

The express written objection may be the result of a pending or recently completed Change of Registered Name Holder. This is an opt-in process during which the new Registered Name Holder agrees not to transfer for 60-days. This domain will be transferrable on 12/27/2010.

I'm so pissed right now.. not only do I have to wait 60-days before I can try the transfers again. I'm pissed because I canceled my private registration on ALL these domains (Godaddy charges $10 a pop for this).

I called GoDaddy about it.. but they said there was nothing they could do.

!!!!

What a waste of time and money GoDaddy is.. GRRR!

Kids don't make my mistake. Stick to NameCheap and you'll be a lot happier.

Yeah anytime you are leaving them they turn into the worst. Not that they are very good when you are with them in the first place.
 
They were never very good.

I have just been too lazy to switch until now.

And now they are the worst. :)
 
GoDaddy is terrible, I've had experiences with them where I've found a few nice domains nothing to brag home about but decent. Went to register, just about to finish the process then they tell me the domain is no longer available. The domain magically ended up in the auctions. Stick with namecheap, they are the best in my opinion.
 
Yikes. You should have read my rant on here about go daddy about a year ago. Their hosting sucks rats a$$, their customer support in reference to cpanel issues is clueless, every change you make takes 24 hours to activate. Best thing is the cheap domain names instead of transfering them just use a 301 redirect, it's less hassle and FREE and you can scrapebox blast their name servers and don't feel a way about it F them!

You can see that they spend more money on their advertising than they do their actual product, HOSTING! It's a good for Newbies who don't know anything about hosting, but if your used to on demand changes without the BS Bluehost is the way to go.

godaddy aint the only one who does this, im trying to transfer a domain fro network solutions, and they just locked it aswell, im not able to transfer that domain until 30 days from today.
 
It is a common rule among registrars. You may change your email, your phone, etc. But if you change your name or Company, it locks for a couple of months.

Another things you may face when finally do the transfer, is needing to unlock the domain(s) to be transfered and looking for the security code for each domain, required by the new registrar in order to legally do the transfer.

About the last one, I looked for the codes of my domains to be transfered, send them to the new registrar and the new registrar told me that it was denied. GoDaddy denied the code twice. The third time, it finally passed.

I think it is best and it is also an instant change, to just change the nameservers to the ones of your new registrar. No needing and quicker than the 301 redirect. You may do this right now, even with locked domains.
 
I've tried transferring away from godaddy and all I get is a message saying 'transfer denied' with no explanation and ofcourse the shitty tech support are no use.
 
I'm not a fan of GoDaddy and don't like their hosting but, so far, have had no problems transferring domains and the authorization info has been issued promptly.

I guess the lesson is to update your info after the transfer and not before.
 
I am going to say I have the complete opposite experience with them...I transfer domains to and from them all the times and never run into any issues.

Though doing something stupid liking updating all your information and then requesting to move is an obvious flag...from their point of view...you could be stealing shit.

As for the tech support, I have had to use them say 3 times in the past 5-6 yrs and never had anyone as stupid as you guys are noting.

Maybe I am getting lucky here or something, same godaddy? :P

PS as for 1and1 they are by far the worst company I have ever worked with, took me about 8 months to transfer domains from those assholes and then they had the balls to charge me again on the renewal cycle thinking they were still the registrar for them - now that tech support was like talking to a brick ****ing wall.
 
I'm pretty sure this rule is for all registrars and not just GoDaddy.

My domains have been offline 36 hours now after a server migration of my files. Customer service is a complete joke. I have veen given no explaination or estimated time when the issue will be resolved.

Not only am I losing money each day I'm offline, I can only wonder and worry how badly they have screwed up my data files.

I'm going to switch to Hostgator in light of this fiasco. My question is, should I give G0Daddy another day to get things corrected before I switch or just go ahead and do it now.

I only hope they successfully backed up my database before they did this. The Server migration was not requested by me and was done Sunday night with zero warning.

If anyone is remotely considering G0Daddy as a Host, don't do it. You will regret it later.
