:thumbsdow

The same happened to a friend. So it must be something new.

So this is Legit? No Fraud Or a New Nigerian Trick?

He buy a domain and a hosting package from godaddy site. The next day godaddy send him an email asking for his ID. He send the scanned ID and all OK. I thought it was because he is not in the US.

Someone Wrote this on a Godaddy Forum:

(3) Why does GoDaddy need a digital copy of my Driver's License? For all I know, I might have just inadvertently given sensitive information to
some potential Al Queda sleeper agent who might have infiltrated GoDaddy. Is the U.S. Government or Homeland Security okay with GoDaddy's
request for a D.L. scan or other documents ONLY requested for releasing my domain name?

No response to him. Can someone who has experience with GD give me a bit more info?

this is more and more common. even the post office won't let you pick up a parcel sans driver license.

I had my vps host lock my account and demanded license info etc. Apparently somebody hacked into my account and committed fraud and I had to explain.

I hated that but my sites were locked

think DRM. with all the "watch streaming / download movie" sites out there, they are just sucking up to big businesses in order to belong to the crowd and profit long term.

even if your domain is privacy locked from whois snooping, what's keeping them from giving out your real details to anyone who puts a pressure on them...

before switching hosting it would be a good idea to ask if they require this info.

I can see a new type of Switzerland-ing emerging.
