I've been using GoDaddy on buying cheap domains, and didn't have any issues on them. One thing to keep in mind once you bought the domain, go into the G-Daddy's dashboard and change the settings for the domain from "Auto Renew" to no by unchecking the option. Also, prior to the end of the first year, you have the opportunity to transfer to a different registrar. Or simply leave it expired, but make sure auto renewal is disable or GoDaddy will charge you automatically.
