Hi All.

I am looking for the best resources to get a bit more clued up on GMB.

I have set up a few small, local businesses.

I want to rank them in the top three pack.

Currently, in the top three, there aren't any strong contenders. I am covering the whole city.

What are your best resources? Have you ranked anything in the three pack?

Was it easy? Hard?

Best methods you have used or come across?

All information will be useful and appreciated.

Yes, but recommended threads and resources save hours of time.
But creating new threads to ask people to do work for you in not it cheif

Code:
https://www.blackhatworld.com/search/68322024/?q=GMB&t=post&o=date&g=1&c[date]=1546300800&c[reply_count]=1&c[title_only]=1

This is the url for these specs
Query=GMB
Search titles only=True
Newer Than=1546300800 or january 1st 2019
Search Forums=all but marketplace
Display threads=by recent
Minimum replies=1 to not just get blank threads

Here are some epochs by the way. (unix timestamp codes) starting by seconds from the date january 1st 1970 also the reason some phones or other devices sometimes say 1970.

Generate them here

Hope this helps you!

Depends on the niche, some are very hard to rank in the 3 pack and some are easier. I am working on a gmb for a client in the locksmith industry and the gmb is stuck in position 4 forever. The site has much more authority than the other competitors which means there are other factors in play other than the authority. I think the name has a ranking advantage. if the gmb name has the query i can see they rank better. However usually these are spam listings which can stick for a long time and can be deleted. You must complete your profile, add pictures and posts. From my experience posting every other day doesnt move my gmb to the 3 pack. The competitors arent posting and still they rank.
Basically according to SEO's the 3 main factors for ranking are: Proximity, Authority, Prominence. Which basically means that it depends how far the searcher is from you, does your site have authority (usually from links and content) and prominence which means basically in how many places does google find your business. Since my site has way more authority than the competition i assume that i am lacking prominence and i think i should add more content to the website.
I read alot online, i havent found one guide that really brings you to the top, all of them say the same. I think also time plays a role. I can also tell you that once you get there it is hard to take you down. I have over 30 listings in a competitive niche and they are in the 3 pack. Some of them i dont really update and they stay there. So i guess to out rank someone in the 3 pack is hard, even if you do everything by the book. To reach position 4 was relatively easy. If you have other questions you are welcome to ask
hope i helped a bit

That makes a lot of sense, thank you for taking the time to write it.

Locally, there doesn't seem to be a lot of 'general' people taking advantage of GMB. It seems like the new rank and rent is via GMB (to me, anyway)

For a GMB listing to become effective does it directly relate to the quality of the website it is linked too?

Do you think there would be any more authority from building a website on the GMB platform or a landing page at least?

Proximity, Authority, Prominence. I do like them three keywords.

Have you ranked any for an entire city? Or do you find towns to be easier and more profitable?

Sorry aout that btw, didnt mean to shit on your thread. Just addin that in

Hey, man.

Don't worry. Jr.VIP code of conduct; We don't take things personally.

I see many spam listings with no website connected to them, even not the gmb website and they rank.. That is probably because they are keyword rich. These usually rank for less than 10 keywords but they do rank for the relevant ones. Some people will say that the GMB website will rank better because its googles website. I dont think that is the case. It does get indexed right away but new sites also get indexed quickly. I do think that the quality of a website plays a role. You must also remember that people also click on organic results and many times visit the actual website on dont click to call right away. Again this changes from niche to niche. In the locksmith niche most clicks are from mobile because usually people are stuck out of their house or are just not at home. You should also use Schema markup and embed your gmb. Every little bit helps in the big picture

I've found that the higher volume of click thru traffic signals in the local pack naturally maintains their positions.

To get into top 3, keyword in GMB name, reviews that include keywords, user uploaded geotag photos, description should include all your top keywords, upload YT videos with target keywords and backlink to GMB, map embeds on high traffic pages, just to name a few :)
