I have seen a lot of posts recently about people trying to get clients, using the 7878 method and others. Have also seen a lot of posts about people not having success.

Well, you can't copy something exactly and expect the same results. You need to tweak a bit.

Maybe this will help spark some creative juices.

So, most people tell potential clients that they can solve all their problems, and that they have the solution - and all the potential client hears is "pay me" or "I want your money"

Take what you are doing now and implement one little simple thing and watch your business increase:

GIVE THEM THE BLUEPRINT FOR FREE.

Yes, tell them exactly what they need to do to solve their problem for FREE.

So, for this example lets take online reputation management.

Take all the info in 7878's ORM method - but twist it a bit. Show them all of the bad reviews - circle that sh#t in RED - make it hit them hard in the face - "Hey, potential client - LOOK AT THIS!"

...but tweak the sales letter. Instead give them a brief intro about your company...and include something like this in the envelope (use business cards - you can print them dirt cheap online):

...and create a guide that solves their problem. SHOW THEM what complete ORM consists of. Be 100% honest - none of the bullshit like "We make negative results disappear from the Internet" or "We force Google to remove negative results" - (I saw marketing material that claimed both of those quotes in the past 30 days!)

Scared that they will take this info an do it themselves? DON'T BE! 99% won't or simply don't have the time.

    Advantages:

    • THIS SHOWS THEM THAT YOU CLEARLY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT

    • When you present them with useful information it shows that you are knowledgeable and don't come across pushy and just hungry for the sale. If they REALLY want ORM guess who they will contact and contract with? Yes, you!

Create a KICK ASS guide to give them for FREE. Create a page on your website that they can download it from (of course get their name/email/company name in order to download it) - put the link on a business card along with a QR Code - everyone has a smart phone. Think of how many business owners will get your mail, see the offer for free info and scan it - enter their name/email and hand deliver you a hot lead. If they want the guide then they are interested.

Too many people try to safe guard information. Don't worry, they don't have time to do it. This makes you look like the EXPERT.

Now, you don't need to get into crazy detail, but write a guide that explains exactly what you do.

Instead of "HIRE ME AND PAY ME!" the client hears "Hey, this is what we do, we do it well...and if you would like us to handle it for you we would be happy to"

If you decide to do this spend time on it - don't just throw together a pile of sh#t - it needs to represent you.

    This approach works.

    Good luck.

    Kick ass in 2014.

I like this approach. This definitely makes it easier to get your foot in the door vs. hard selling them (especially ones who have no idea what ORM is about)

    hitting a nail there...
...if you want someone to be your customer you have to deliver a reason why he should pay you. so that would be to exactly tell em what your service is all about. and in detail.
...nobody will open up his wallet without knowing a good reason. therefore you should explain. and in detail. as OP stated the won`t do it themselves. they maybe will ask someone else who claims to be able to and get it done easily.
but leave it up to them. if your approach is professional they will hit you up.

It all really just boils down to basic marketing - providing value :).

    Some of my suggestions/thoughts:
    • Remember to have your landing page optimized for mobile!
    • I would make the link the focus rather than the QR code by making the call to action more clear and visible. No need to take the QR out since it can help increase conversions, just make it a bit smaller.
      • Nobody uses QR codes regularly and it's very likely the recipient doesn't have a reader already installed. The minority of people that have ever scanned a QR code usually don't use them again.
      • It's much simpler for them to type in the URL.
      • We also have to consider whether or not they're aware of what it is or how they would scan it - in which case some instructions should be provided. This would add friction and complication.
    • If you do want to go the QR route, you might also want to consider augmented reality.
      • They'd also need an app to "scan"
      • It's a more interactive and creative approach where you can show your CTA, video, or other info right on top.
        • Good "wow" factor (might even ask you to do that for them lol)
      • It'll be easier to tell them what to download since there are few platforms for you to use
        • One thing: it'll cost some money.

Ehhh, don't discount the QR....simple solution: Send the QR to a different URL so you can track.

Example: www.yoursite.com/freeguide (for print) and www.yoursite.com/freeguide-qr for the code

I have seen them pull crazy numbers. More people use them that you may think - also, it takes 2 seconds to scan, and they enter in their name/email -don't discount it until you test it and have numbers to back it. They work.

Also, the sample above was done in 2 seconds. Chance it/fix it/adapt it to your market.

Netmoney, you are freaking awesome. I just have to say that.
I'll see how I can apply this to my next launch of ORM letters so my Journey can really blow minds!
Happy Holidays my friend and again, thank you.

I like it. Every business owner gets hundreds of advertising letters. It would be good to make the client realize, that your trying to help him, not to fool him

Yup, that's why I mentioned leaving the QR there and making the URL more visible as an alternative. Most of the time they aren't utilized enough to be effective, but in certain applications they're great. Too many different factors to consider though .

    Appreciate it, and good luck!

Yeah...it is just a way to stand out form the rest. It really positions you as the expert...and when a decision maker has your information and a stack of sales letters from 25 other companies who do you think will make a bigger impression and get the business? Give them value and they give you their credit card :D

This is brilliant. Thank you for posting OP.

For 2014 I am starting my ORM in my city but researching methods first. Thinking of writing my journey. These tidbits help much.

    Cheers

This is so true. I saw a video last time of someone making a live presentation to an audience showing them every single steps he uses (or that they can use) to get ranked in Google Locals. At the end of the presentation he says something to the effect that "it's ok if you don't have the time to do it we can help you with it, but we only accept 1 client per city" or something like that and shows his thousands dollar packages. As I was watching the presentation I myself felt the guy was good.

When I get some time I'm looking forward to try this approach. I think it's also possible for the one still hesitant after downloading your report to invite them a week later to assist to a free webinar to reinforce your statement and how you can help them.

    Thanks. Very nice share.

You are welcome and good luck!

Yup, it can be done for virtually any online marketing segment. A guide on how to build a WP site....a SEO guide....local SEO guide...ORM guide....a Photoshop tutorial...a Blogging guide...ANYTHING.

99% will NEVER take what you have served up on a silver platter. They don't have time or desire. But while every other company marketing to them is saying "we can help you" you are coming across as "this is how I can help you" - makes you look like the expert and more transparent.

Great perspective on how to get into the mind set of a business owner, they are looking for a solution to a problem, not another expense, awesome share, definitely going to add something similar to this into my marketing strategy!
