Gimp vs Photoshop

PS has more advanced techniques than Gimp does. It has way more options and is better if you are using it seriously. How ever Gimp is free which is a big plus if you don't have the money to buy PS.
If I got to chose between the two of them I'd stick with PS. Learn to manage PS and you'll do well in graphic designing.

I have used Photoshop because it is easy to use. You can edit your image or photo as well as possible, so you can find valuable experience to see your pictures.
If you want to get serious with graphic design, forget using GIMP and learn Photoshop AND Illustrator...I think a lot of people have forgotten this. If you want to get into logo design, learn Illustrator. Illustrator does vector which means you can scale up (or down) the logo and not have to worry about the logo becoming pixelated. I personally think it's easier to learn Photoshop and Illustrator because there's so many tutorials available.

Obviously Photoshop!! you will not need to move to the other ones.

If you can afford Photoshop then go for that. Otherwise stick with Gimp or whatever freeware software you are most comfortable using. There's no reason to spend $800 for software, if you can get the same results with a free software.

Gimp is free, but Google is your friend if you need Photoshop. Also, there are more tools in PS then Gimp... Like rendering effects in the new CS6.

I also started initially playing with gimp and for a while I thought I didn't need photoshop because "they were practically the same" BS. PS is INSANE. switch preferably get the cloud package pretty cheap the first year and you get all of their other useful software (illustrator, etc)

Well GIMP is just fine for what it is a free photo editing program. It in no way compares to PS/CS. Aside from the obvious fact it's free, the user face takes a little getting used to, but some of the general advantages I would say are 1) it's updated more often than PS. 2) Being open source, it's very customizable, and there are always new user-developed plugins & tweaks & twerks being released.
Gimp is not easy to use but once you learn is a good tool. I am using the XP-Pen Artist 12 Pro ( xp-pen.com/product/479.html ) display drawing pad for Photoshop . It’s the best thing I ever did for photo editing. It’s seriously amazing.

Of course, each program has its own advantages. But GIMP is not taken seriously by many customers. The customer equates Photoshop to a professional level. Although you can do great things in GIMP. You can stop at any program, but I advise you to consider analogues at least for familiarization - it will be useful. The truth is learned by comparison.
