What kind of ghost followers are we talking? Bot-created accounts that you bought/created, or, organic followers who just follow and don't engage? Also, how many are we referring to? If Instagram can detect that you've been purchasing bot-created accounts, they might ban/limit your account in some way, otherwise, having organic followers who sit around doing nothing all day will not have any negative impact on your account. As a matter of fact, they help boost your IG status -- if anything. The only downside is that they do not engage.

I would reconsider the type of images I post if I were you. Most of the time, engagement drops because of the quality of photo we post. More so now that follower engagement percentage has dropped dramatically in recent months. You may also want to reconsider the technique you use to gain followers. You may not be targeting the right audience.
