Ghost Followers - Low Engagement

Looking for some advice on this - I have 17,641 followers built up over the last 3 years. However I am posting high quality images in the travel category. I've just run Social Cleaner to try and work out what's causing my low engagement (around 100-200 likes per photos tops) for such a larger follower count.

Once I ran a scan on my followers, it's showing I have 16,664 ghost followers. I get around 100-200 followers per day when I post something, I follow the majority back and the next again day I have almost the same follower count that I had the day before. It's seems around 80-90% are following and then unfollowing.

I must be doing something severely wrong for their to be around 1% liking my photos, around 90% of comments I get are from people who don't follow me.

Any ideas on how to fix this as it looks bad that I have 17.5k followers and struggling to get 200 likes.

It is going to be difficult to test all 17k followers, but you will need to really.

scrape them all
check if they are still active (posting)
check for other fake followers signs such as no avatar.

then scrape all who are not engaging (liking / commenting / watching) who are active and target them, trying to prod them into interacting with you.

If not, then you will probably need to purge a lot and really try and target engaging accounts interested in your niche. (scrape high engaging users from similar accounts and target them)

Thanks for the advice rootjazz, is there any software or apps that can do this (ie; that find high engaging users, those who haven't comment on last 20 photos etc) - the app I use just has a generic ghost option so I don't know how many photos it's taking in to account etc.

@dotcom1 I am in a similiar boat as you when i saw this post. I'm wondering if you were able to fix your ghost follower problem? If so how? And did your engagement come back up even though you had to lower your followers number?

Also sorry newbie question, @rootjazz what do you mean by scrape the users? Like filter them? I also have a ton of potential ghosts like OP, so can not do it manually, what program would you recommend doing it safely?

I would recommend setting up a bot (or doing it manually) in order to like 2-3 of each of your ghost followers pics. Definitely helped with many of my ghost followers.

Sorry late reply didn't see this. All bots with a scrape module will be able to do this in one way or another, as that is all it is. Scraping the data, them map the results as needed with some basic scripting / excel rules. But some bots do provide one click solutions for this. Your best bet is to contact them and ask.

Sorry I wasn't clear. By scrape users, I mean scrape the followers then you can run your filters as you choose on those results (probably your bot will allow you to specify the filters to be applied during the search so it is performed in one go



So the OP should:

1) try to find out which accounts follow him that are inactive / possibly fake / spam accounts. If you have multiple accounts, you can share these tests among them

2) Find which followers who engaged with your posts made in the last 30 days (same as finding which followers did NOT engaged in last 30 days

IF the numbers are as stated in OP, that 90% are ghosts, then decide whether to keep them or not. Dropping 16k followers may not be ideal.

@Bet Thanks for your tip! I've been doing it manually but perhaps not enough as I don't really have much time for social media... which is why my reply here was so slow (sorry about that). I will take your advice and do so more often. To clarify though. Did this work for people that are following you but you are not following? Cause I read somewhere that by interacting with them, IG thinks you are friends IRL and will show your posts to them, but would this work if only they are following you but you aren't following back?

@rootjazz thanks for your reply. Sorry for tagging ya earlier outta the blue, you seemed pretty pro haha. Got it, so scraping and filter just means gathering the info and finding the bad apples. My current plan is to try to engage with my followers (liking 5-6 of their posts). I think some of these users I have not engaged with for too long and are not seeing my posts anymore, hopefully some of these current ghost followers will become "un-ghosted" after I do this engagement thing for a a month or so. Afterwards I will scrape/filter all my followers to see who is still not engaging with my latest stuff, even after I did my engagement spree thing. Then I will remove these guys.

Do you think this is a feasible plan?
For the 2 separate steps, Engaging with followers, and Scrape/Filter/Removing the ghost. Can you recommend a bot that I can set a filter for? Such as people that didn't engage in last 15posts...
And if you have knowledge about the above underlined question I asked Bet, would be helpful. Thanks so much!
