"Getty Images, once a fierce critic of how AI companies use creative content without permission, has struck a licensing deal with OpenAI to integrate its professionally licensed photos and visual assets into ChatGPT's search and discovery experiences.

This means it will open the doors for more image use of celebrities i think, if that's your niches, and their custom range of world wide photographers, even if it is then filtered through ai. I assume they want the backend of this deal up and running pretty quick?

What does this mean?

Would those images be used for training their AI on image generation? Or those images would just be available to be shown as a result when a user asks questions that contains image results?
 
I dunno yet, maybe ask chagtpt in a few months! lol i thought it would give us some sort of use an ai trained for copyright free, thats just my assumption vs, real photo paid link? maybe. Dunno. As someone said celebrity images are copyright? but i don't think thats right. Take a look at the tit and tattle gossip magazines, they sure as hell don't pay a royalty to celebrities! lol

So i dunno what this means, apart from it will have to translate into something better for us?
 
WTF?!?!

So Getty, which charges publishers a fortune for photos while paying photographers peanuts, is accepting a bowl of lentils from OpenAI.

I don't think this will make any difference for users in the short term. Maybe subscription prices will go up, and that will force other photo news agencies to reach an agreement.
 
All that's happening is Getty's earnings are down and they realized they can make a quick buck by selling their images to be trained on.

The clock is running out on the value of that training data to AI companies.

OpenAI wants this data so that it can generate better quality images of humans and to fill in flaws (like how it generates hands/fingers).

Since the age of people (places), and their styles change, i think getty will continue, but i hope if they train their data, that also paves the way for us to use it to create our own drake images at the music festival 2025 or something.

You bring up a good point though, but then you have to ask yourself, "How long does ai want to be trained on reality?" I think thats an open ended question from an ai deverloeprs perspective now. We don't want to keep polluting the reality pool with fake which is sort of already happening.
