Getting your followers to repin?

I did a little experiment, I sent a pin in private messages to my followers which resulted in a lot of click throughs to my site plus quite a few repins.

What I'm wondering is, if I keep sending this paricular pin to people and they keep repinning it so their followers repin it and so on, will it carry on getting repins and bring in traffic if I stop promoting it altogether?

Interesting, what about sending it to many times as spam?
