For someone who's just getting started on social media, what actually helps with getting noticed and showing up in searches?

There's a lot of advice out there, so I'm curious what worked for you personally when you were new.

Showing up on social media alone is vague, what's your goal growing a personal brand or business? A service or growth for influencer opportunities or just experimenting.

When I was starting out, what helped most was keeping things simple—choosing one platform, sticking to one clear topic, and posting consistently. Over time people started to recognize what I was about, and my content slowly began showing up in searches. I didn’t chase every trend, I just focused on being useful and showing up regularly.

Imo, pick one platform and one format

Consistent posting around a tight topic + engaging with others in that niche works better than trying everything at once.

When you’re starting out, focus on one clear niche, post consistently, and use searchable keywords in your bio and captions.
Strong hooks, early engagement, and testing different content styles help you get noticed faster.

Focus on a strong hook in the first few seconds. When I started, I realized that fancy editing doesn't matter as much as just grabbing attention quickly and using the right keywords in your captions. Just be consistent and let the algorithm do its work.

Some niches are very effective for social media; I saw trending content perform better, so I try to mix trending topics, which are niche-related.

Pick one platform, one clear niche, post consistently with searchable keywords, and engage daily visibility comes from relevance and repetition, not hacks.

If your presence feels vague, it’s because you haven’t answered the only question that matters: “What do I want people to do after they see me?”

I’ll break it down simply:

If it’s a personal brand — your goal is authority. You post to be remembered, trusted, and eventually hired or quoted. Every piece of content should support one narrative: “This person knows their stuff.”

If it’s a business — your goal is transactions or leads. Content exists to move people one step closer to a sale. Awareness is useless if it doesn’t convert.

If it’s influence — your goal is reach and partnerships. You optimize for shareability, attention, and brand deals.

If it’s experiments — your goal is data. You test fast, kill what doesn’t work, double down on what does.

The mistake most people make: they post without deciding which game they’re playing. Then they wonder why nothing happens.

Pick one. Build everything around that.

Posting regularly, focusing on a clear niche, and engaging with comments or other creators gradually built visibility. Using trending topics or hashtags can give a small boost, but showing real personality and sharing useful content seems to stick better than chasing every shortcut.

Pinterest is literally a traffic printing machine if you know how to use it well. Also the majority on it are women so you should target female related niches. Build a good audience and following and you can later do partnerships with other women's brands.

For me consistency mattered more than anything. Pick one niche, stick to it, and post regularly so the algorithm knows what you're about. Optimize your bio and captions with keywords people actually search for. Also, engage daily real comments on similar pages bring more visibility than just posting and disappearing. It's slow at first, but momentum builds if you stay consistent.
