Just wondering if anyone has any tricks to make people stay on your site longer?
You can put up videos and longer blog posts. Also you can use surveys.
The videos work, however, don't go with the longer posts or the surveys. They tend to annoy the crap out of people and as you may get them to complete it once...they WON'T be back, rest assured of that. They are bothersome.
My suggestion, give people a reason to hangout. Like facebook, it isn't just about social posts anymore, it is about social interactivity and entertainment. Get a couple of those roleplaying game scripts and post them into your site for people to go on and hangout in the games.
Granted, facebook's system is interactive, where members can share pieces and whatever but there are ways you can use this to your advantage as well. Give people a reason to hang out and they will. Your site rank will go up just as facebooks does for them hanging out. The secret is to make it interactive so that the posts count as user-generated data. This benefits you both drastically.
Besides, if they are hanging out, when it comes to buying something you offer, you are right there to snatch the sale.
Give them freebies... everyone like it...
That works to get them to optin but to stay onsite, not so much. Once they are done downloading, your lucky to get them to open an email or log into the site ever again.
Besides, you don't want to hook them on freebies forever, because then they never buy anything. You train your visitor what to do and expect from you by your interaction with them. People don't realize they are training their visitors never to become customers/clients because they are just so happy to get the traffic working in their favor.
Focus on getting them in the door with that guru style freebie offer but then, keep them there with maintaining their focus and interest. Freebies only go so far before information overload kicks in and they are so busy downloading your freebies, they don't take your offers seriously as you have turned them into a freebie download zombie at this point.
If you want to monotize the download method, have a free zone and then upsell it with the upgrade of membership on the offers. It is like GreyWolf mentioned in another post about an old episode of Frasier...Frasier and Niles found a spa pass that wasn't meant for them, sneak in and enjoy their day...UNTIL...they see the door for the next level of membership.
The spend the rest of the day sneaking in through door after door, only until the episode ends with them plotting to go through the next door. This place must have been 3 miles of building, as many levels as they went through. I remember it vividly, as their was wood paneling EVERYWHERE in the rooms.
Leverage it to your advantage with by making them curious as to what is on the other side of your membership upgrade door. The number one mistake people make with this is in showing what you get if you buy up. That kills the mystery and people walk away cold/numb to it.
Give them something that they can make use of...games entertain them while at work doing routine tasks and access to their friends through the facebook game method. The posts keep the traffic and content counts up for facebook's side of things.
There are many alternative methods but, be careful to think them out not only for getting traffic but to monotize as well.
a good long feedback.
btw i agree at your statement above,,, i only getting traffic, but i have site that offer freebies, and the bounce is good so far... visitors stay long on my site to get what kind of freebies they wanted to..
on my mind : i must getting more traffic + more backlinks + more pagerank = $$$
hahahaha... am i wrong with this?
If you are looking for ppc, adsense or cpa traffic, as well as that " $$$ " to mean less than $100/day...sure, you are on the right track if that is the point.
I suggest you modify your formula there a little bit to look more like this:
Targeted BUYER traffic + more targeted BUYER content/ targeted seo promotion + targeted BUYER product/service offers = $$$
When you target the sequence, you make it viral, where it eventually helps you by building on itself, not just working by what you build manually/directly yourself.
that door analogy was very good, I would just like to add that for every one of your freebies, always hint or say that theres something better coming tomorow. Thats one of the things they say in them ebooks, you gotta have the cliffhanger and make them want to come back.
Heres a bunch of free stuff, but if you want the NUMBER ONE best free thing ever, click here(to your sales page). If you seen FK's videos, content-content-content-pitch. That way you build credibility, give your people something of value, and they wont be as resistant to purchase from you when you already gave them 3 free things.
This way you drop hints to get people to come back because there will always be something better tomorow, and if you build up trust by delivering something of value, your breaking down their resistance to buy when you strategically send out your pitch.
