Getting the home page to take precedence over inner page

I'm working on a site that was once two different pages and I guess they were consolidated. What my intent is to get the site ranking higher in the serps but an inner page with much less authority is ranking #9. If I could get the homepage considered it would rank very high based on its stats. How can I get google to consider the home page for this keyword over the inner page?
