Getting Steam games at a discount with VPN

So I am a gamer and I love steam but I found out how cheap steam games are in other countries.

I live in USA.

If my steam account was set to Argentina I could save tons of money.

A $60 game becomes $25.A $20 game becomes $3.

You get the idea.It depends on the game or the sale.

A simple way people used to buy games cheaper was use a vpn and make your country into one where the price was cheaper.

Steam got wise to this and now you need a payment from that country too.I would just buy a prepaid debit card and have someone ship it to me is my idea.

I heard one guy say just switch your country and do not buy the games from steam directly just trade for them.I do not see how this matters and I think you are required to buy a new game in order to change your country anyway.I could be wrong as I have never used a VPN before.

You do not make money doing this all it does is save you money.Steam does not allow someone in Argentina VPN or not to buy a game and trade it to someone with a USA account or give it to them.They are aware of the insane price difference.

I do not know what Steam does to people they catch since as soon as you turn the VPN off wouldnt they see that?

When I switch to play multiplayer USA games I mean they will see that I assume.My friend says steam tracks and sells our info.

I dont know if Steam terminates and bans people they catch or if they literally do nothing.

Even the people who do it are still giving steam money.Steam still profits off people who do it.

I just wanted to know if any of you do this or know about it or would try it?

I plan to play steam games until I die so this could save me a lot.

I never played a PC game. I find them to be useless and waste of time. With Amazon taking over the affiliate marketing all over the world and with SEO being dead I am thinking of getting a Linux Laptop when 25 TB HDD and 4K monitors becomes a regular feature of budget laptops.

why dont you just buy steam game codes?

If you leave steam and never come back it could or will cost them money.

I have never used any website like that.I only buy my games from steam unless it is a gift to me.

Have you tried a website like that?

These prices look much much better than USA prices but the Argentina prices are even cheaper.

Either option is better than now.

They're good but be cautious. Some of it has region lock if im not mistaken. But it will definitely be disclosed.

I just read that some G2A games steam can reject them and you will take a 100% loss and have to rebuy them.

So while it is safer in the context steam will not ban you or terminate your account there is a chance anything you buy from them you lose 100% of what you paid them and have to rebuy it.

Overall it is still safer than the VPN idea and there is other websites to buy from than just G2A.G2A is just one of a few that sell key/game codes.

Unless someone replies having done the VPN it is not worth the risk.

My last question for you is how many games have you bought from G2A or their competition?

Good point, if im not mistaken G2A is just a marketplace. I think they sell insurance incase key goes wrong.

No experience purchasing game keys, only bought ingame items. hehe

I know two ways to do this

-Buy RUS/CIS keys create a new account with VPN and activate the game

-Activate the games in your account with VPN (High risk)

Both of them are horrible solutions, how often do you buy a new game, do you really want to deal with the headaches just to save some cash?

Don’t waste your time and money trying to save some bucks, it will cause a ton of headaches to you in the future

The whole point of coming on here was to talk to someone who has actually done it.

In "real life" I am a stock trader and I buy pump and dump stocks on purpose because I can predict which will be pumped.

Most people who buy pump and dump stocks buy after they have been pumped and when the dump happens they lose a ton.

Some people will say buying those is stupid and risky but it really is not when you know what you are doing.

If a few people came on here and said they have been buying with a VPN for years and had no problems that would be different.That would give some example that it works.

Without anyone saying that I agree it is too risky and not worth it.

As for you saying buying from G2A or their competition is a horrible idea there is many more who do that vs my VPN idea.Plus I can buy a $3 or less game as a test.$3 would be my total risk and steam wont ban or terminate my account either.


I would say I have already spent at least 1 thousand on games on steam.This would of saved me a lot of money.

Some claim they will not refund it but if I was to do it I would just buy some cheap games under $5 and see what happens.

it is not a new thing. I read about this in another forum and they warned about doing this because this might get your account banned. I have purchased steam keys from different key sellers when I didnt have much money. however there comes a risk with it when buying such keys. kinguin for example lets you pay extra for an "insurance" and I always bought one. once the key was already claimed which I purchased they refunded me after exchanging some screenshots.
BUT apparently most steam keys are bought with stolen creditcard information and if the credit card owner reclaims his money the publisher of the game has to give back the money. so the only ones who are profiting are you and the credit card theft but the game developer actually has to pay. thats what I heard or saw in some youtube video I cant remember exactly

If you really want to try it there are some accounts resellers, if you want to play the game just for the story/offline then it’s your best bet and the price is 5% the original price.

Also G2A is the worst company ever, there’s a lot of info about why buying keys from them is a bad idea

There is because people will just automatically call it risky and stupid when they have no idea.

I never heard of a steam account reseller.Tell me more.

G2A is just one there is at least 2 others I saw today.

Might get your account banned is still not the same as someone who says they did it and got their account banned.

I can buy insurance too.

If someone was buying with stolen CC info and the real owner reclaimed it wouldnt everyone lose.Why would just the publisher lose?

Account resellers usually sell the same account to several people so you can play offline games but paying way less.
