Getting Spam Website Logins

Hi Everyone,

Recently I have seen several websites that provide email ids for spam backlinking. I am getting at least 50 to 100 registrations on my small social networking website from below websites:

Have you guys ever noticed the same?

I have tried to connect with the owners of the registered email ids that are hosted on these websites, but no one responds. Is anyone aware if these are actually spam websites or normal websites that users are using?

Also, because after registration, users never post anything or they even don't come online after they have created their accounts.

Do you guys have any experience with situation like this and any suggestions to block them!

Many of those domains are owned by temporary email providers that have been around for years, like tempr.email. Others, especially the ones with subdomains, may be part of one or more of the 'catchall' mailbox seller services. If your website is powered by one of the platforms that software like RankerX or GSA submit to, then that could explain why you're getting so many automated signups.

If they're not actually posting anything, do you really need to?

But yeah, options you have include adding a harder captcha to forms, or changing the signup form slightly, editing fieldnames etc to try and bypass whatever detection methods they're using.

Are you using WordPress by any chance?

If so, you should consider using CloudFlare login blocking.

Thanks, it was an in-depth analysis indeed. I have created a custom login and register page maybe that's why spammers are creating their profiles and backlinking them to their profiles. More than 300 backlinks in a day to these profiles.

These profiles usually have some websites attached to them, that have further links.

I am blocking the websites on my login page now. Added a mandatory "Add image option". It has reduced the number of registrations so far, but I will have to implement captcha for sure.

If the site in question is the site in your profile, then it seems to be using Elgg, which yeah is on the target list for several automatic link building apps. Anything you can do to modify the signup process will certainly help.
