Never heard it before too
Never looked into it but saw an ad some time ago on YouTube saying they'll use part of the profits for sustainable projects around the world. Never had a referral from them, was it for a term about sustainability etc...?
Not sure if they build their own or have an agreement with bing/Google.
You compare results on all of them to see?

I also get traffic from Ecosia, from time to time.

It's interesting, it pulls results from Microsoft but it allows you to choose from Bing or Google maps if you click on that tab, kind of liked it, it offers quick suggestions and it is fast. It is supposed to have around 5-6 millions users, which would explain with not many of us had heard of it or received referral traffic from it.

You can use disavow link to skip all referrers from it and use robot.txt to block it to your website to get data.

Haven't tested yet. Others mentioned it's Microsoft
That explains it. There are big players behind this.
