Alright, first off. I currently have a C2D iMac from '06, and have been making a few hundred a day steady lately, so I've have figured it's time for an upgrade. I want a Windows this time $1,000 or under. I'm pretty computer illiterate being 14, so I won't be able to build my own and I don't want to take the risk.

So, the reason why I'm posting this is if anyone can link me to a good $1,000 setup for marketing. I was curious maybe if I should wait for Windows 7, or go ahead and upgrade now? I'm really compulsive, so not sure if I can wait. :p

Also, if I have to drop a few extra hundred for a good rig, monitor, etc., it's fine with me.

    Thanks.

Ok dude lemme get something straight here?

You wanna change from a Mac to a PC? Why so?

The iMac you got if fine, if not perfect for IM. I don't see the point of you changing to a PC for the fun of it. Sure if you wanted to game more, then go for a PC but form the sounds of it you don't.

And you also mention you don't wana build a PC, so your gonna end up paying big bucks for a OEM machine that will be pretty average.

If I were you I would keep your Mac. If it's only a 17", then get a nice 22" external for it which you can find for around $150.

Otherwise sell your iMac off. Get a new iMac, or a new Mac Mini or a second hand Mac Pro and buy a big 24" screen for it. And yes screw Windows 7 :p You can run it on your current Mac anyway.

    Just my 2ยข

    Thanks for your response. :)

The reason why I wanted to which to a PC was because of all the tools I run on Windows and Parallels isn't doing it. It's not to powerful, so it runs not very good at all. I can't use Bootcamp, I'm on 10.4 Tiger, and the beta expired. :S

But now that I think about it, I may just do that and get a iMac and external.

Thanks man, got a little thinking too do. ;)

EDIT: Just looked at refurbished Mac's, that's what I'm going to do, hands down. Thanks a lot man.

    Roll your own.
Go to newegg and put one together.

    Box
    mobo
    ram
    cpu
    graphics card
    hd

There's really not much to it.

A 1T HD can be had for under a hundred bucks now days!
or go to dell and get one.

Don't sweat the Vista OS either as you can partition the HD and run Win7 64 bit which is every fast!

Then get Sun Microsystems VMbox and run as many OSes and virtuals as you need.

You can even run OS X using WMware as Macs run on intels now.
I love Macs , my first home pc was a IIci, but because they closed their system off at the start, they let all the development go to the PC side.

You can plug a toaster into a MAC and it will figure out what it is, configure and make toast!

    Lol ok.

Well I got a even better option for you!

Get a new iMac or keep the one you got.

Now go on ebay, craigslist and find a average C2D box, should be able to find a decent one for $200-$300. Then try and put 4gb ram in it.

Now here's the fun part. Get remote desktop and simply do run all your blackhat apps on the PC box without you using a VM.

Plus you could get a external and put a KVM switch on it, so you could have a Dual Screen Mac or use your PC and ya iMac at the same time :)

Alienware is overpriced as fuck. Follow what KSoze said, and build your own. If you don't know how to build one (it's easy) take it to a local mom and pop shop and get it built for like 50 bucks.

You can get a kickass rig for $1000.

Build you're own. You can build a quad for under $1,000 with two monitors. That would be the ultimate for quite a few things. You can find a barebone i7 or 955 setup for under $1,000. They both run off the new DDR3 ram. Except AMD mobos don't support tri-channel memory yet.

Basically you don't need any of this at all for IM. You should be looking at around $600.00 anyways. Rest would depend on what monitors(two) you get.
